Frenchieboy
Even if there were to be a minimum age limit on here I honestly don't see how it could be "policed" enforced or checked on. Let's face it I could if I had wanted to have lied about my age and no-one (Except those that have met me or that I have helped out) would have been any the wiser. I could easily have been a youngster of 12 years old - And the reverse is also possible, some 12 year old could have lied about their age and made themselves out to be a grumpy old *** like me! If it were workable it should only be used and enforced in the purchasing of guns and ammunition (In accordance with the laws) as there is a very important place on here for youngsters who want to learn and are serious about getting into our sport and learning about gun safety, shooting and vermin/pest control. Let's not forget that we were all younger at some time or another and that the youngsters of today are the adults of tomorrow! p.s. That pink handbag that keeps getting posted on here - How cheapis it and if I pay cash can I have a discount, it's the wife's birthday soon and I am on a tight budget? henry d
No, one of our most respected members was a young lad when he joined and continues to add excellent comments every now and again (probably because he`s chasing some bit of skirt or hitting the drink) He may be one bright kid out of a few youngsters who seem to be cranially challenged on here, who knows, however it is up to us to "Mentor" them. garyb
Why limit our next generation of sportsman to the help and advice found on here, because of the actions of a few.
pavman
what's to stop someone lying about their age if they're under an age limit anyway? Indeed Highlander springs to mind
Canis
As someone that started shooting in my early teens I am against anything that restricts youngsters getting into shooting and therefore would not like to see them being restricted on PW. One point though- now that under 18's are not able to own an airgun anymore, does anything need to be done to ensure that Airgun sales by post are to over 18's? Particularly at the moment when it is new legislation, i'm sure that the powers that be will be itching to award £1000 fines to shooters for making air rifles available to minors ! This is my point, should the "gun sales" section be available to over 18's only? In that case everyone would have to give DOB, people lie. However if the lie is recorded is it then fraudulent? Or does the seller still get in trouble as they should have made there own checks? I cant remember the sign up declaration but it seems the forum rules aren't followed very closely and rarely enforced anyway
Dr W
Ferretmaster I always thought you were over 18 due to the cider consumed over the last 2 Bisley meets
njc110381
I don't think there should be a minimum age to view or discuss any part of the forum. There are some top lads on here who are in their teens. FM being one of many. I agree that the for sale section could bring trouble to someone if they sell kit to a youngster but how can you police it? And if a parent agrees to the sale then what harm is there in kids looking for kit they may want?
Beretta28g
In a word no. In my opinion its easy enough to lie about age, but i think that a quick look back through peoples older posts will be a good enough indicator age. I think its down to the seller to make the contract with the person, and if no laws are being broken e.g the sale of a dog whistle, whats the problem. With regards to the sale of weapons just state Valid Id on view at transaction simples.
gixer1
I have to say initially I said "yes" but on reading some posts I have changed my mind, the reason I initially said yes was some of the graphic pics on here of inside out foxes as I would not like to think a child under 10 was seeing these and misunderstanding. As has been said, age does not automatically bring maturity so I take back my vote and change it to "no" Regards, Gixer
