SilentKill
found this whilst searching for video's on Barrett 338. His first attempt at a Deer at 200 yards is a good foot above his target, so he then decides to take a shot at a deer further away at 360 yards which is about a foot from the horizon with the bullet traveling upwards! if he had missed the second as bas as the first that round would have gone miles into the unknown! Catweazle
What an idiot. The second shot was obviously poor too, no way would it have walked after a solid hit from a .50 .
Mungler
What a complete tool. If you want to shoot deer, use a deer rifle and a deer calibre. He made two very bad shots because he was using a rifle that was not fit for the purpose in hand. The really weird bit is that they video'd it, but a rock music sound track to it and then brodcast their toolishness to the world.
Vipa
Careful chaps.... You'll be starting to grow big shiney halos and ascend to a higher plane! The main reason I no longer frequent another 'stalking' related forum!
Cannon
What a bunch of tossers. These people really have no respect. No doubt there were a few stories told in the pub that night about the 1000 yard deer headshot with my 50 cal homie.
Mungler
Careful chaps.... You'll be starting to grow big shiney halos and ascend to a higher plane! The main reason I no longer frequent another 'stalking' related forum! Oh come on. They made such a fuss of a simple 200 yard shot, and the only reason was because of the super heavy and unweildy .50 cal rifle they used is no good unless used prone or off a bench. The second shot, well, as someone has already said, if that was clean the beast would have dropped like a sack of spanners. This isn't one of those "each to their own" moments. If people want to shoot badly and make bad decisions then that's entirely upto them - I would just question the need to video it with a rock sound track and then broadcast it. I beg to differ, this is a FORUM the same as YouTube, if they didn't want them to be commented them on these places would not exist. and the fact they have Made the video shows that they are proud or boasting of their achievements. Vipa
The second shot, well, as someone has already said, if that was clean the beast would have dropped like a sack of spanners. We all have 'bad days' and if they want to hunt with .50BMG then, as they can and it's perfectly legal over there, let 'em. As for the backstop query on the second shot... for all we know there is probably a thousand miles of desert on the other side of that summit... not, as in this country, Bolton! With regards to dropping on the shot, not a given with any calibre unless hit (well) in head or the neck. There is another video somewhere on there of whitetail hunting with a .50BMG, perfect boiler room shot at about 150yds.... the beast runs about 100yds before dropping... when they approach and have a look, it had been completely eviscerated.... and yet still managed to run all that way before it dropped (saved on the gralloch too ) I've taken the heart and a good proportion of the lungs out of sikas (granted not with a .50BMG) and they have run a fair way before dropping. Big bullets don't necessarily equal instant death!.... now.... a grenade launcher It gets better http://www.youtube.com/user/SickDm5#p/a/u/0/3h8p4CZHhzY Now this one I'll give you... sheer incompetence! But then, 650yds is by no means an easy shot! bad form to even try though unless you have put the range time in and are up to it. One miss then a hit I can live with at that range but no more than that. Edited March 7, 2011 by Vipa
Frenchieboy
I have just watched both videos! I could be wrong but these look like American soldiers out on "training"! If I am right then with a mental level such as shown on these videos while out on training is it any wonder that the Yanks are involved in so many "friendly fire" incidents? mick miller
Vipa, the problem is these utter twots are simply using live animals for target practice. It's as simple as that. It has nothing to do with being a good shot, or skill, or safety. They simply have no respect for live quarry. The vast majority of us are well aware of the need to be close enough and confident enough to ensure a quick, clean kill. The margin of error at those ranges is too great to ensure absolute placement. Fine if you want to test your skills at that range, but please, please just use a target. marlin vs
Disgrasefull use of animals for pure target practice,no respect for the quarry at all. Edited March 7, 2011 by marlin vs
kdubya
Disgrasefull use of animals for pure target practice,no respect for the quarry at all. I agree but pleae dont think its a "yank" related thing, I have seen a video of a day punter and a "professional stalker" out on the reds (hind cull) the professional is clearly to be heard encouraging the punter to take a plus 200 yard head shot (lets not spoil the meat eh) the punter fires but makes a complete rick of it and just about takes the lower back leg off the hind!! the poor sod then limps away, fortunately to be found very late in the day by the stalkers dogs, at which point it was put out of its misery, so please lets not play the squeaky clean us V yanks. cheers KW Edited March 7, 2011 by kdubya

al4x
Its target shooting on living animals, not on you take the humane killing shot with a decent caliber for the quarry. That said there is stuff posted regularly on here just as bad

Mungler
I don't tend to agree that calling something "unsporting" or "dangerous" should be considered to be taking a holier than thou approach. If this bloke was shooting apples off his mate's head whilst blind drunk, I reckon I could legitimately hold the personal opinion that the shooter was being a bit of a "tool" without someone suggesting that my attitude and comments were "holier than thou" or "halo polishing". cocker3
the simple fact of the matter is these (people )or ***** as i think sum put it have no respect for there quarry and there for should not be called hunters **** wits like that should stick to shooting targets. there is nothing wrong with shooting animals at range 200yards as long as you have done the range work and are very confident of your bullet placement and some are but 650 yards is just gess work and no more .ok on targets at that range but living animals ! as before *****
sodit
Well I think you are all pussies in your condemnation and outrage. Verminator 66
what a bunch of tossers well well out of line they should do a lot more target shooting Before they start on live targets it must have been in agony how the hell do they get away with it
