Depends how much your willing to spend. The sak is great value for money!! If you want to splash out then the third eye tac rf mod is both over barrel or muzzle mounted and is great quality. Or for more money there's the wildcat whisper. I used to have an sm11 which was similar in performance to sak but longer. The choice is endless!!

If you are looking for something different to the SAK you might like to think about the DM80 sound moderator. Dave Mercer makes them calibre specific for the 17HMR. I haven't tried one yet but I believe they are very efficient and extermely well made!

I bought my CZ452 second hand, and it came with a Sirocco SM11, on it.

It seemed to do a reasonable job of quietening it down, but has been chewing through the baffles, at very high rate of knots.

It's a 16" barrel, so I suspect the mod has an harder life, than with a longer barrel.

Have others found their SM11 being eroded away, quickly?

If you talk to edgar brothers they should send you some stainless steel baffles FOC although they only send a few.

a new sak

colin

LOL yeh a new SAK is probably the cheapest option.

I like the look of the "DM80 mk3" and the "Third Eye RF" however a lot of people seem to rate the "17 Whisper" I was just thinking of going for a .17 specific, but yeh mabe a new SAK would be the easiest option, cheapest as well.

The ONLY people who rate the 17 Whisper are the poor mugs who have just paid £125 for one and can't bring themselves to admit they just wasted their money!

I had a sak mod on my old 452 hmr and it was ok, the baffles lasted around 8000 rounds so you can't complain for the money. When I got my new 455 hmr I decided I wanted an over barrel mod so went for the wildcat whisper as it was the cheapest over barrel mod and the shop I bought my gun from had them in stock. It cost a straight £100 which I thought was very reasonable compaired to the other mods I looked at, Ive only put 1200 rounds through it so far and its still like new hopefully it will last longer than 8000 rounds though. :good:

I got my dm80 delivered yesterday. Today (in front of a few regulars on here) we done a comparison of a sak and dm80. The dm80 is defno quieter than the sak. But it's not a significant amount. The sak clearly releases some of the accelerant blast.

I would say they are with the little bit extra.

Well i was there and have to say i was a sak man all the way and would never advise anyone to spend extra for a mod for the hmr but im now convinced the DM80 is quieter so if cost isnt an issue it would be a good buy :good:
