Kes
I think its the 'Royal Corps of Engineers'. I like the tribute to the medics - not a job I would find easy and under fire - ??

No, it is the Corps of Royal Engineers. The only "Royal Corps" is the Royal Corps of Signals.
Frenchieboy
I served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (R.E.M.E.). We always thought that we played a major role in keeping the Army mobile. However we only played a small part in a very large game and every Regiment has it's own part to play and they all do thier individual jobs extremely well and without question or complaint, therefore they are all equally important in my opinion so it might not be fair to single out any one Regiment or Corp for special attention! ALL members of the armed forces deserve recognition for what they do! I hope that makes sense?

chrispti
Every unit is an important cog in the military machine. Without one of these cogs, however small, the machine wont function properly, if at all. So my vote goes to the mighty, fearless warriors of the Salvation Army......HOO- RAA

welsh1
1. It is the Corps of Royal Engineers, not "Corps of the Royal Engineers". 2. The Royal Regiment of Artillery is a Regiment, not a Corps. The clue is in the name. 3. It is Artillery, not Artillary. If you are a Sapper then I think I have guessed why Her Maj has you digging holes and making mud pies for a living. Thank you for your corrections, my apologies for calling the artillery a Corp, that was me with brain in neutral, the "the" was put in for effect because we are The Royal Engineers, and the spelling was deliberate to wind up my uncle 10 years Artillery and my dad 9 years Artillery, who both go mad when they see it spelt with an a not an e as has happened in the local press a few times. I love the friendly rivalry between Sappers and Gunners, my dad encouraged me to become a Sapper as he said all he could do was "lob a load of scrap a long way" I spent 14 very happy years in The Engineers until injury forced me to make the decision to leave I will also have you know that making mud pies and digging holes takes a great deal of skill. Salop Matt
I know the RLC get some real earache with names like: Realy large Corps, Recruits Last Choice, Recruits Last Chance etc, But . . . . This is where a heck of alot of EOD ATO`s come from and when all the others have backed off to a safe distance these guys and girls suit up and go forward and work on IED` and unexploded munitions. Also the sigs gang as they go forward with the ATO`s and provide ECM cover also. So hats off to them. I also work in this field so maybe I am a bit Biassed

I joined the RAOC as an ammunition technician (AKA Albert Tatlock, bullet mechanic, rocket doctor) and left the RLC as an ATO some 23 years later with a few tours as a high threat IEDD operator under my belt. NI was my bomb disposal playground but I reckon we had it a lot easier than those doing the same job in Afghan. Respect.

I did a tour at depot Int Corps in Ashford before it moved to Chicksands, we had an RLC EOD detachment there. Also did a tour attached to FIU in so got to know a lot of Int Corps. EMcC
How on earth can anybody name a whole Regiment, Corp or Unit as 'The Best' There are good soldiers in every unit of the British Army and there are tossers. Someone mentioned the Parachute Regiment, I've met some good ones and some total tossers and as for the Ghurkas, some are so thick they don't know where they are half the time and do not have a mind of their own, just do as they are told because they don't know what else to do. Again, I cannot say all of them are the same so back to my opening statement, all British Army Units have a specific task to do and are all needed to back each other and that is what British Army Units are good at. That is why the British Army is the best in the world.
