Ear defenders?

Hi,

I've got some over the ear style protection at the minute, non electronic.

Just seen these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peltor-Tactical-6S-Electronic-Behind-Head-Ear-Defenders-/360349300699?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item53e67df7db#ht_500wt_689

What's anyone's thoughts? Like the behind the head idea personally. Would like some electronic ones so I can hear what's going on but don't want to pay through the teeth (hundreds) for in ear electronic.

Help!?!

The Napier ones don't work. I bought some and tried them against standard ear defenders. You can hear speech just as well with either. If you don't believe me do the following experiment. Put the radio on and wear your Napiers. Turn the volume down until you can only just hear it. Swap for some standard passive defenders - you will still be able to hear the radio.

They're just a con. Only worth buying if you value low-profile ear protection (although in my experience ear plugs are cheaper and more comfortable).

If you want to hear speech clearly then you need electronic ones.

Have a look at the Napier pro9 and 10 passives very clever and work you can hold a conversation with them on light and battery's don't run out

As above. I have both, and they are brilliant. Very light in weight, and battery free. The Pro 9's are designed for shotgun shooting, and the Pro 10's are suited for centrefire rifle.

I've got the Peltor Sportacs. They're pretty good. Having said that I've read very good things about the Howard Leight's. You can plug an I-pod into them and listen to music which may or may not be an advantage for you? And they're cheaper!

Another vote for the Sportacs - excellent and comfortable for extended periods - batteries last for ever too. They can amplify conversations some distance behind you if the gain is turned up too far.

A couple of months ago I was clay shooting and blathered a close in target from the bottom barrel (1/4 choke) - must have been smack on cos it was a ball of dust....I heard a voice behind me say "must have hit that with full choke". Finished and came out of the cage - two shooters were about 15ft away and I was able to say "that was 1/4 choke actually" he burst out laughing, amazed I'd heard the comment.
