debaser
I've putt in for a FAC for a .22lr. Assuming it's granted what scope would you recommend for a cz 452? My budget is sub £100. Thought these look ok, what do you think? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bushnell-Sportsman-3-9x40-Telescopic-Rifle-Scope-Sight-/260794498272?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item3cb8903ce0#ht_2315wt_1199 I'll be shooting rabbits at no more than 60 yards initially and hopefully when I get a bit more proficient out to perhaps 80 yards. Also a moderator, most people seem to rate the sak. Any advice welcome. ATB
swiss.tony
the scope will be fine on a rimmy but as you will find when you shoot at nite it pays to get the best you can afford but that will do fine for starters mate 80 yard bunnys are no probs for a 22 lr
Mark-70
Never used a bushnell myself so couldn't comment on the scope itself. I do have a CZ452 .22lr and my choice was a 4-12 x 50 with a 30mm tube, I know people do but I couldn't imagine using a 40mm scope on it & and the 30mm tube is so much brighter than any of the 25mm scopes ive used. As for the moderator I have a scirocco sm11, my mate uses Sak nothing in it sound wise. Just personal preference again really!
vampire
I would not buy a 40mm scope for a .22lr (imho),there are plenty of good deals to be had,try to get a 50mm objective as it will be better and 3-9 mag is the most common, for the budget you have i have bought TWO good quality scopes off the bay,one new the other s/h but both retail at over £200 each, one is on my .22lr (bushnell & banner dusk till dawn) and on my .223 (leapers swat). Just watch the back stop and richochets with the .22lr

Scopes get very personal, and without doubt EXPENSIVE scopes bring potential advantages of dialing in, build quality, night, clarity, etc, et I don't need, or use, crazy price scopes on ANY of my rimfires (actually not on any of my centrefires either), and I can honestly say in all my years of shooting I have never refused a shot on the basis the scope is not up to it. Its a .22lr, it has no recoil to talk of, and you do no shoot 500 yards with it. Buy a value for money scope to start with, and decide in the fullness of time if you need something else! You will not go wrong with a SAK mod. ATB! Edited June 19, 2011 by Dekers
steve_b_wales
Bushnell are a good make. Also try out the HAWKE range of scopes. Excellent value for money, and most carry a 10 year warranty. I've used them on rimfire and centrefire rifles with good results. Steve.
Gimlet
Bushnell are a good make. Also try out the HAWKE range of scopes. Excellent value for money, and most carry a 10 year warranty. I've used them on rimfire and centrefire rifles with good results. Steve. Quite agree about the Hawke. Got a 3-12x50 on my air rifle and have used it on my HMR. Far better than a Nikko Sterling, much crisper and sharper. It will last longer too. Don't bother with illuminated reticles- extra cash for a gimmick. Most are far too bright to be of any use. You won't need more than 12 power, that will be fine for a .22lr. Zero at 70 yards and you'll see every shot land clear as a bell. SAK mod perfect for .22lr. Colster
Bushnell make some great scopes but the Sportsman isn't one of them I'm afraid (same with Hawke, great scopes if you don't include the Sport HD). JSR's own brand scopes (Leapers) are worth a look but your £100 will get you more for your money second hand, you could get a Mamba for around that sort of money. Yes it has some fancy gadgets that aren't essential (IR SCB ret and side parallax) but it also has very good glass and is very well made. TaxiDriver
SAK mod Cannot see how you'll do better for £30 A 4-12x50 Hawke Scope is very adequate for the job but has no 'snob value'
Alycidon
Fixed power 6x42, Simmons make decent cheap scopes had hold zero. A
bullet boy
Have a close look at either a Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 or a Simmons WTC 3.5-10x50 scopes. Both are priced around your budget, depending on where you can get them from, and are also excellent price wise too! Colster
Could you explain? I've had a number of Hawke scopes and found them good value for money but personally I wouldn't describe the HD Sport that way. Yes it's cheap but there are much better scopes even in that price range.
Frenchieboy
If it were me I would rather go for the Simmons Pro Sport 3-9X50 as opposed to the Bushnel that you have put a link for. I have a Simmons Pro Hunter 3-12X44 on my .243 and can say in all honesty that I can't fault it. The optics are very good quality and it never loses it's zero no matter how many shots I fire so it really is recoil proof! I have just had a look on J.S.Ramsbottom's site and they are doing the Pro Sports 3-9X50 at £52.99 (That will be plus P&P and maybe VAT, but you will find that price hard to beat) so it is well within your budget and it will give you a lifetime of use on your .22LR. Plus being a 50mm objective lens it will be better for you than a 40mm scope if you want to go out lamping due to the better light transmission too. Here's a link to the scope that I would suggest: http://www.jsramsbottom.com/products/riflescopes-simmons/simps3950-simmons-pro-sport-3-9x50-riflescope-[510479].html I have had lots of dealings with J.S.Ramsbottome and can't fault their service or prices mate. It is obviously up to you but as I said, if it were me this is what I would go for, I might well even get one for my .17HMR to replace the Tasco World Class 3-9X50 that it is fitted with at the moment! I hope this is of help to you.

ATB Contact Wabbitbosher on this site, he has a great ex demo .22lr - looks as new, original box, manuals, 16inch stainless steel barrel, composite stock, accu trigger. It's a billy bargain
Bewsher500
you can do better than Hawke. I bought a Walther 3-9x40 IR for £25 second hand. sits on my £800 rifle and works flawlessly. lots of bargains on eBay at the moment.
Rem223
The Bushnell scopes made in Japan i.e. the Elite range are good scopes for the money. The warranty is not that great, but they are decent scopes. I'm afraid the rest are nothing special. The Korean and Philipino made scopes are a case of you get what you pay for. I would save a bit longer and spend a bit more than you would like because in the long run it is money well spent.
