the last engineer
Skeet, any of you guys shoot on a regular basis, how dod you fare. one range here is going to install a couple of oscilating machines in the house's, it'll add a little discomfort to some i think, are there many skeet clubs or ranges around ?? dunganick
most good grounds have them down here, and some of the not so good ones for that matter. i dont fare well at all on it
Devilishdave
I shoot skeet quite often when work is not getting in the way I try to have a round every week. my best is 22 but normaly average between 17 and 21. I watched a young lad who had been shooting for 18months clean the skeet about two months ago. I guess thats natural ability for you. Do you go in the middle and shoot them as well? Thats the most fun, I love it. nothing more satisfying than getting a left and a right in the middle not simultaniouse I might add. That would be clever!! Zapp
I used to shoot loads of skeet. I am getting back into it now, and average I suppose about 22. My best ever comp score (years ago, on English) was 91/100. Problem is that I just seem to throw targets away that I know I can hit. What I need to do is do some serious practice, but I usually get bored after 2 rounds and wander off to do some sporting. There is a guy where I shoot who shoots a krieghoff, and I have NEVER seen him miss a target in about a year. If that doesnt put you off nothing will! He uses a wind back and maintained lead style, which looks bizarrely mechanical, but boy does it work for him! Mind you, he shoots 10 rounds of skeet most saturdays, so he ought to be good. I'd be interested to see how he would do at Olympic skeet. Pete
roe doe
very few shoots have skeet up here mainly sporting or dtl if you want shoot skeet we go down in to lancs which is not very often as i just shoot sporting as a rule Edited April 21, 2006 by roe doe
paulos
i like shooting skeet, lately its been my favourite. ive got my average to about 22-23. ive cleared it a couple of times but i usually end up cocking up on stand 4.

Dave love shooting station 8, have done the double from 8twice breaking both tgts befor e the center, cocky *** in i , you guys dont shoot 8 but shoot a pair at 4 if im told right, i do like shooting international skeet with gun down and delay, sorts the do-ers from the dont-ers, can be humbling if not shot regularly . i shoot a lot of skeet myself with a few close friends, my best was 125 x125 in a local comp and then missed the next tgt :*) how to loose face in a second . if the range is empty we also shoot handicap skeet, this where you take 5 good pace's back from the stations increasing the tgt distance then stand 3-5 yds forward on st 8 loads of fun . paulos
5 paces back? what about stations 1 and 7? you stand on the roof? sounds good fun though. i think some grounds have high skeet grounds as well, english rules but the traps are both in much higher towers. if anyone here has shot it before, how high are they? Devilishdave
Martin I am not sure what you mean by stand 8 if that is the plate exactly in a straight line between the high and low houses then thats whare we shoot from gun down on up to a 4 second delay. although normaly on call of pull we can crank our set up to olympic which to me is no harder I still tend to miss the same amount but it is a little more instinctive becaus it is faster. If I have been doing a lot of walked up or even driven shooting I seam to do ok at it. It is normaly set for English skeet though. Dave , you got it smack in the middle, take a pair no delay and hit them both before the stake, or alternatly shoot a high then a pace forward shoot again, see how close you get to the house, dont put one in the window :*) doesent go down to well with the club. int rules here now are as follows st1/ a pair 2 single high, then a pair 3 single high, then a pair 4 single high, single low, then two pair, 1st pair high low , 2nd pair low high 5 single low, then a pair 6 single low, then a pair 7 a pair 8 single high single low then option up to 3 second delay, gun must be at hip target is set at 70/90 mtr for speed still looking forward to the oscilators, im told the degree's of change will be up to 30 lateral and 15/20 elevation, Martin
BTMS
I used to shoot alot of skeet English, Olympic and NASA. Best was 98/100. I was taught by Alistair Ford who was the English Team capt for several years and I have watched him 100/100 with 12 bore, 20 bore and even 410. My mate and I used to shoot 500 carts each Sat :*) at Parkford GC, StOyth. Then discovered sporting Like TLE said when the range was empty try hitting the pair on station 4, 5 yards further back Watched John Bidwell shoot middle station from the hip and not miss one evn pairs. Devilishdave
I like the idea of the handicap system martin. I had a go on the skeet last week with a .410 which was a bit of fun. I had never fired a .410 before it is easy to see how a boy who learns with a .410 will be leathal with a 12 or a 20. Dave
kdubya
I like a round of skeet now and then and I get my fair share of 25s I love the odd go at "stand eight" absolutely wicked, in fact I am off to rufforth on weds (first time for a LONG time) for a skeet and dtl bash cheers KW
Lord Geordie
Had a few rounds recently at Steve Smiths in Dinnington Last time was with a Franchi with FULL choke as i had just sorted it out and Skeet was the only available one clear to test it on. A few jaws dropped when i was hitting with Full choke I shoot better with my Escort and my Rizzini than any others and seem to do about 17 on the skeet But on Grouse and DTL i fare MUCH better LG

deadeye ive
I did 20 yesterday ......I missed one of the pair on both the first and last stands would you believe .........They are the easiest stands IMO and as a result I gave them no respect Would like to do alot more of it but in a small group you can soon get through some clays making it an expensive day 23-24p per Clay around this neck of the woods
miffy
I did a 19 yesterday (20 if the scorer had marked the card right ) but considering i haven't shot with my shotgun since January i think i did ok. Ive i have got the score card in front of me from yesterday and the lad that was scoring can't count and he has definately marked the card wrong. The score is wrong for kenzie and Chris too.......Don't tell Kenzie will ya There is a couple of clay grounds local to us so after we have shot at Doveridge we can try one of them
