al4x
True but seems abit pointless having a limit and not using it. as it is also pointless to have £500 worth of .243 ammo clogging up your cabinet and taking 5 years to use it
kent
yes, i explained in letter that i wasn't about to load 500 in batches but wanted to buy 1000 heads at one go. Got a snotty letter back about cost not being an issue_ i never mentioned cost i mentioned being able to get what i wanted dealers dont hold a lot of hornet heads and i want to import TMS 46 grn RWS heads from Germany, there are ways round this I don't think heads need to go on cert. I only started asking the gunshop owners to put them on after my FLO queried the "lack of use" on the .243 even though he was happy enough when i explained i was home loading. Oh yes they should if they are expanding

I make sure they go on my cert, (they never used to)... for the very reason above. 243....Buy 500....Hold 600.
Luckyshot
as it is also pointless to have £500 worth of .243 ammo clogging up your cabinet and taking 5 years to use it If thats the case why have a high hold buy limit. Mine is buy 200 hold 300 so I normally buy 100 v-max 100 sp simple
magnum
True but seems abit pointless having a limit and not using it. eye reload so n umbers don,t come in to it for me i can get down 10 rounds spend a few hours reloading and get back up to 400 i allways resize my case the same day or the next then go mad in my loft and fill them all !!!!!go to gunshop buy a few boxes of heads gone down the road of buy all sort of head till i now found some that me and my gun get on with and have given the odd pw member the odd 1s that i didnot work and will still do so i have shoot over 300 rounds this year up to now so when it comes for renewal it go up i would think
deputy dog
Hmr buy 500 hold 600 and for .243 buy 100 hold 160. Wanted 300 but go it reduced.
geordieh
And I thought things were restrictive here in the states at least in Illinois, but we don't have a limit on the amount of brass or shells we can posess. I reload (.220 Swift,223Rem,.308) and can usually attain all the components desired. Out of curiosity what do you shoot with a .243 with the 58 Vmax? Hi coyotemaster Itry to get over the pond to illinois every year whereabouts do you live,my mate lives near Dwight illinois Geordie
polester
I just asked to up my limit on 223 as went into henry kranks wanting some blitzking and she told me couldn't buy them as didn't have enough on ticket. I explained that I only wanted the bullets not full round and she said west yorkshire count expanding bullets same as full round? When I phoned cumbria firearms dept they said they're wrong but will up my ammo count for free no prob and when I asked what is a reasonable amount they said it's up to me as to how many I think I wll shoot. So a massive thumbs up to Cumbria FD for having some sense. I asked around and 1 lad has 1000 to buy hold 1500 243!!!! Just glad I live in Cumbria

Just glad I live in Cumbria Think you will find that Krank's are right and your flo is wrong. Expanding heads do count towards your buy hold allowance. If your allowance is for example buy 80 hold 100 the most expanding heads you could buy would be 80 which would be hard to buy just the heads as they come in boxes of 100. If you were buying fmj heads though you can buy as many as you like.

Dunkield
I wonder if anyone has ever had to prove they have the space to store them if they max'd all their quantities out? I am fairly sure even with an ammo compartment and a seperate box I couldn't.

I am fairly sure even with an ammo compartment and a seperate box I couldn't. I had a conversation with my FEO about this on last variation because i will admit he was right when he said theres no way i could get 3000 rounds into my large ammunition safe.I told him that the chances of me going upto my limit with the big calibre stuff is unlikely, but i like to have the option should any come up cheap.I also said if push came to shove i could store any overspill in the cabinet containing shotguns because they're not compatiable with rifle ammunition. He agreed and my limits remained 500/600 for everything. garyb
I wonder if anyone has ever had to prove they have the space to store them if they max'd all their quantities out? I am fairly sure even with an ammo compartment and a seperate box I couldn't. On the contrary, I could easily get 1800+ bullets in my ammo safe as components for reloading form Edited August 10, 2011 by garyb
pavman
I dont know which part of suffolk your at but philip webster of great ellingham has them in stock. bornfree BF I am on the Norfolk Suffolk border......... I put Suffolk as some of the lads i know from Norfolk like to dress up as ladies at weekends and i dont want folk thinking we do that sort of thing in Suffolk the local shop to work i use is cooper sports at woodbastwick, other than that its a treck to Halesworth on a sat (Richardsons) and they are not much into stocking 243 rounds other than federal and Rems which I dont get on with in that cal
al4x
Pav if you have your used brass can't you find someone to reload them for you? then the powder costs you £45 100 bullets £30 and primers aren't much and you will be able to repeat when its all used. But the powder will do a couple of hundred all you would need next time would be bullets which if you order them from the states can even be delivered to your door.
