What to do

Right, I have £1000 I have saved, and I am not sure what to do with it (no im not giving it away) haha. I dont know if I should buy a nice game gun, and top the £1000 up with a few hundred quid more and buy a Beretta Silver Pigeon 1, brand new of course. £1250 in my local shop.

Option 2 - Buy a nice semi auto, like a Benelli, I have a spare slot on my FAC for a large magazine shotgun, and I do a fair bit of pest control, and it would be ideal as an everything gun for my uses. But its not practical, I cant take it clay shooting ect, haha. I was toying with getting a cheap escort for a few hundred quid to suffice for this use.

Or should I buy a nice scope as I will hopefully be getting my ticket variated with a .243 slot on it.

What would you do? If anyone has any of the above for sale, this might tempt me too...... :D

Is this £1000 all your savings, or a portion of your savings you've allocated to shooting?

If it's the first, I'd say don't spend it. If it's the latter, I'd go for a nice scope and mounts.

It's the first mate! Adding 250 per month, but money is tight so may have to reduce that a bit!

Put in a variation and add something CF to the collection and pick up your reloading gear also ! :good:

For me that would set me up with a .22 Hornet just nice ! :good:

I want the 243 for foxing and stalking, so I was going to get a pulls setup for both jobs! I have looked into reloading, looks good, but not for a few years I suppose, need to learn how to do it!

I would honestly save that money. Sorry to be a killjoy.

I used to spend all my money on stuff, but I've seen the light and feel far happier knowing that my savings are growing and that I have some security for the future.

Keep the £250 a month going and just set up a separate account paying in a smaller amount for personal pleasures.

If you're with Lloyds bank, why not change your account to a 'Save the change' account, which rounds up any purchases to the next pound and deposits the change in your savings account.

I'm a terrible one to talk but saving it is the best advice. I'm really trying to get my head into that mode at the moment and am putting by spare amounts when I can. I'm still rubbish at it, but you have to admit it feels good when you have a few quid behind you.

If you must spend it I've had a nose through your signature and all I can see that is missing is a centrefire rifle. Why not spend just over half on a good used scope like a variable S&B and then keep the rest ready for when the rifle arrives? Just think how you will feel if you have a variation in your hand for a new toy and no money! Serious stress!

I'm the last one to hand out money advice, but really I am trying to back off of the spending without first getting the money via overtime or selling something. I'll never have a credit card debt again that's for sure. The old fashioned way is the best way and as a (rich) old chap once told me "money costs money". "If you have it you can sell it to someone (get interest from the bank), which is much better than having to buy it (pay interest to the bank)"!

Wise words. I was thinking of the scope, its either that or an FAC auto!! As that would get some serious use!!

Simce you mention Benelli,

Black Gun (in Norfolk) posted in another topic that he might be putting a Benelli up for sale.
