Vince Green
One of the biggest events in the country, Bisley Live, is coming up in September and whether you are a shooter or not, this is one show you definitely don’t want to miss! So what’s it all about? Around 30,000 visitors and 200 exhibitors will be gathering for the inaugural Bisley Live show being held at Bisley from Friday 30 September to Sunday 2 October. This show represents a milestone in game fairs where visitors, for the first time, will be able to try firearms before purchase. In addition to the exhibitors promoting their products and services there will be a country fashion show, gun dog demonstrations, lectures on care and maintenance of guns, gun valuations, game food hall, lectures and shooting competitions. Tickets are available online and on arrival. Prices for NRA members start at £15.00 for adults, with two days at £27.00 and three days at £35.00. Seniors and children pay less. To buy a ticket, please visit http://www.bisleylive.com'>http://www.bisleylive.com or telephone the ticket hotline on 0844 581 4950. Attractions on offer include: Try before you buy Bisley Live is the first gun and country sports show where visitors have the opportunity to try a selection of firearms (including air guns, shotguns, black powder pistols and target and hunting calibre rifles) before purchase. This is a unique opportunity for visitors that no other event in the UK has ever been able to offer. For a list of exhibitors, please visit http://www.bisleylive.com/bisley-live-exhibition-sub.php?id=NDM=. Have a go Visitors will also have the opportunity to try a variety of guns on the Century Range, Melville Range, the British Sporting Rifle complex, the National Clay Shooting Centre layouts and Bisley Shooting Grounds. Please note: Visitors must register with the National Rifle Association for both Try Before You Buy and Have a Go using cartridge rifles or black powder pistols – even if you already hold a Firearm Certificate. A minimum age of 14 years applies for these activities. Registration is not required to fire shotguns or airguns. Registration is a simple declaration of your name and address and that you are not prohibited by law from handling firearms. Registration can be completed online at http://bisleylive.nra.org.uk or on the day of the event. In either case, visitors will have to produce photo ID and proof of address to collect their special wristband giving access to the rifle and pistol ranges. Shooting Competitions There will be shooting competitions for both shotguns and rifles. So don’t be afraid to show off your skill and compete to be a winner. • The Bushwear Group Therapy – best five shot group with centre fire rifles • Running deer competition • Three-man sporting flush • 50-bird DTL competition • Pool shoot • Rim fire sporting competition Lectures Including: How to Identify Deer – Chris Howard How to Track Deer with Dogs – Duncan Thomas Firearms Law – Peter Glenser Wild boar in the UK – Dr Martin Goulding Gun Valuations Is the gun that you’ve been keeping in the attic and are afraid to use actually worth something? Come along to this session to find out. There will be an auction of antique and modern firearms with valuations being carried out. Gundogs Howard Kirby of Mullenscote Gundogs will give demonstrations with both spaniels and Labradors. Muzzleloaders A fascinating demonstration by members of the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain. Pistols and Revolvers Demonstrations by the Sportsman’s Association of long-barrelled pistols and revolvers, plus muzzle loading pistols. Mick Gault, Commonwealth Games gold medallist, plus Tom Redhead, the National Coach, will be on hand to show their skills. Fashion Shows Two fashion shows will take place each day highlighting the latest in country sportswear. From mesh vests, gloves, jackets and caps to ear and eye protection, every aspect of shooting wear will be on display. Top brands from all over the world will be taking part throughout the three-day event. The fashion show will help to raise money for Help for Heroes, the show’s official charity. Game Food Hall A range of tasty game-themed dishes will be available for you to try, along with game cookery demonstrations given by leading chefs. Food and Beverages There will be Cookery Demonstrations by leading Chefs as well as your favourite food at restaurants and food stalls, plus bars where you can enjoy your favourite drinks around the site. Shopping There will be a variety of exhibitors, displaying not only a range of guns and hunting accessories, but also clothing from major country clothing brands, footwear and luxury goods for all ages, along with an opulent food hall. Childrens Attractions Julie Elborough of Woodruff Gundogs and game cookery teacher Kathy Martyn will be holding special taster sessions of their popular ‘Hunt, Cook, Eat’ course for children. The one and a half hour course will include basic gundog training, followed by a game cookery lesson. For those children without their own gundog, Julie will have her field trial winning Labradors with her for others to borrow for the lesson. After they have worked up an appetite throwing dummies and retrieving cold game, the children then get to leave with a delicious homemade game burger! Crèche To help you make the most of the event, a crèche will be available for children aged 4 – 8 years. Help for Heroes Bisley Live will be fundraising in support of Help for Heroes, the charity dedicated to those wounded in the service of the country. So what are you waiting for? Visit http://www.bisleylive.com or telephone the ticket hotline on 0844 581 4950 to get your tickets now! See you there! Mangled99
Only just over an hour for me so will probably go on the Sunday. Dekers
Frankly I don't get it! Bisley has various Open Days, and the Phoenix and Trafalgar. None of which is particularly exciting, even though I almost always go, and they are FREE! Where on earth they have come up with expected numbers of 30,000 at the prices they are charging is beyond me!
Fatcatsplat
I do begrudge paying to go shopping!! Would you shop at Tesco if they charged you a quid every time you visited?

A few beers, dinner in one of the clubs and a chance to socialise with people you wouldn't normally mix with. tosspot
Last one of these (type) shows i went to at Bisley got charged £5 to enter a tent selling some fishing stuff, no more than 6/7 traders there was uproar not just from us i may add, the main part of the "show" to be honest did not fair much better. The Tescos analogy above is very apt. What exactly would i get for my £22?

Vince Green
Hello vince so what are you to do with it Nothing, just an NRA member who wants to see the money go back into shooting instead of lining the pockets of big business. The NRA are a not for profit charity. Game fairs profits just go to the organisers. Any money we can make goes into the pot for the common good. It tough out there, the NRA campaigns for all shooters not just its members. Edited September 3, 2011 by Vince Green
Cranfield
Why whine about the cost ? £22 is not much to pay for a day out, if you don't want to pay it, don't go.

Absolutely correct, £22 not bad for a day out. Not whining about the outlay but (in my case previous experience) the return. Twice bitten, now very shy. I think we as a culture don't complain on the whole but we do avoid. Just saying.

Cranfield
The people I dont normally mix with are *****, thats why I dont mix with them I think Vince meant, "meet with people you don't usually meet with". Fairs and Shows are good places to meet up with people you don't normally see for geographical reasons.
