Dekers
Well, it can' be Pheasant, not legally anyway... Grouse ........... Ha ha Ptarmigan ............ Blackgame or Common Snipe .............. even More So that leaves Partridge... about as likely to get a 1000 bird day as a 2" group at 500 yards, was it cluster bombs you are using?! So, all the best with the pigeons, about as satisfying as watching paint dry!

TJ91
Pheasants on our place can barely lift off ground, we let them mateur abit before shooting them. Too warm to be out shooting, I wouldn't take a gun to many animals in this weather, definatly wouldn't b working a dog alday on it! Beer garden is the place to be. No self respecting Pheasant shoot starts until November. How many shooters to achieve this 1000 number, probably about 2000, are they still in the rearing pens to make it easier? You have had months to show everyone your 500 yard 2" group and have never been available so far, in your own time, I would sell tickets but there would be too many refunds!! Did you hear about the bloke you took a Parakeet at 1200 yards with his HMR, just behind the vapour trail of a Boeing 747, he really wanted the one a bit further out but thought Heathrow Air Traffic Control would be upset! Easy, don't know what all the fuss is about! 2" 500 yard groups, I don't waste my time, I headshoot wasps at 1000 yards, usually with my air rifle, it's just a little more challenging than with the .22lr! Have a nice life. PS We all await the photo of the Game Cart groaning under the weight of 1000 birds!

al4x
fingers crossed it will be cooler for our first partridge day on the 8th, we won't be on pheasants properly till the end of the month at the earliest. As for aiming to beat 1000 in a day thats the sad side of the sport when people with large wallets aim for a bag thats distastefull to most. I've been on 600 plus bird days and prefer sub 300 and if shooting some of the best are 50 bird days. Double guns and loaders is something to experience but not for me. I agree these huge days are total carnage, but with 100,000 plus release and 90 days plus to go at them someone has to shoot them,The Duke pays for it all so I guess he can do what he wants,as you say double gund and loaders, with 14 guns in the line its gets quite busy anyway got to fly done want to be late Edited October 1, 2011 by Ackley

Frenchieboy
This sunshine suits me fine, let's have loads more of it! I went out yesterday mainly to zero up a .22LR but decided to make an afternoon of it so took the shotgun and some decoys. I'm not saying that the birds just weren't moving but I could easily have been tempted to shut my eyes and have a 30 minute nap while sat in the hide! I took 3 crows for 5 shots in an hour and a half! Too damned warm for working dogs hard I suspect, but as has been said "needs must" - As long as they are rested in betewwn drives and given access to plenty of fresh water and some shade (Which they no doubt do have)! Dekers
Hi Dekers mate And i was under the impression that the Queen didn't shoot any more, do you shoot as an invited guest or are you a syndicate member(HaHaHa)lol.Next time you are shooting give my regards to Alan Stubbs(Knobby) Geordie There is NO syndicate there, it is family/invite/staff only, most commonly Senior Royals, lower ranking Dukes/Viscounts etc and sometimes Household. Yes I know Knobby (only ever known him as Knobby, I guess it is the same one, his lady is often out as well, sometimes her lad too), he will be one of the 4-8 current/previous keepers on each shoot and if you know anything about the situation you know fully well I cannot make any direct comment about anyone attending. Ask Knobby when the first shoot is, actually I'll save you the trouble, it's 5th November, that seems a lot different to 1 October, amateurs I guess, who just don't know when the season starts! Best day last season was 502 for one of the youngsters in line to the throne. I'm not sure if it was 6 or 7 guns, can't remember there ever being more than 7 guns last season. But hey, this is only a small estate of about 36,000-38,000 acres (nobody seems quite sure) with a FULL Time staff of about 250! ayano3
I dont want to get into the rights and wrongs or your arguments but I will say I would much rather sit on the tide and get a couple of ducks than be on a shoot that takes 1000 birds a day or set the challenge to do so. I have seen birds around here that I wouldnt even put the gun up to as many are still squeakers. But all to their own I guess.

Wait till the 702 yard rabbit turns up again, with an air rifle I think, or did someone else do that?! ATB!!
hushpower
i would say the duke of devonshire at chatsworth,as the duke of rutland at hadden have more or less packed in shootin just putting 1000 birds down, has a new cycle route goes through the estate now. some shoots want the the first batch of day olds/poults so they can start shooting oct 1st and finnish december and concentrate on ploughing etc for next years crops. You know the thing - my shoots bigger than yours, my guns more expensive than yours, my friends are better bred than yours, my dads bigger than yours etc etc.
