My mate the plumber has been round tonight and chucked some super dooper chemical down there tonight. It hasnt shifted yet but we are going for a second dose tomorrow.

In the meantime Mrs ME has talked us into ordering a new toilet and a new floor

I use an attachment on my pressure washer

Its basically a long thin hose with a head that has 2 holes pointing backwards. You shove it up the drain and then switch on, it then shoves itself up the drain using high water pressure, when it hits something it soon gets past it then the water jets blow it down the tube :good:

just don't let it go too far: luckily I was unblocking my own bog and not a job, and the nozzle/head went right round the U bend and hosed down the entire bathroom

was only about £15 but you obviously need a pressure washer!

As said, check the drain, if that's clear then get yourself a large plunger. None of this 'modern' super plunger ****, a good old fashioned rubber cup plunger about 5" in diameter.

Flush the loo, then vigorously plunge the toilet bowl with a repeated action (down into the bowl and pull back), I find that normally 7 or 8 plunges is plenty. If it's just wipes, paper and poo it will be gone. I haven't had to do more than this for a WC block in years.

If it's your drains and you don't fancy/have access to rods etc, Dynorod do fixed charge clearances.

Unfortunately for me this kind of thing is a major part of my job.You need to determine where the blockage is so unfortunately you or whoever needs to lift the inspection cover and do a flush test by flushing both bogs at the same time,if the water arrives at the manhole quickly and backs it up without flowing away briskly the problem is down the line and should be tackled by rodding and perhaps jetting, (this may end up causing problems for your neighbours unless it is rodded/jetted to the main sewer). If the water arrives at the manhole slowly and the toilet bowls back up immediately then the problem is obviously between them and the manhole. This should be tackled in the first instance by plunging and I recommend a master plunger I know someone said they're s_hite but I have pushed babys nappys over 30 feet with one.The resultant blockage will eventually be pushed to the mouth of the manhole where it needs to be intercepted and removed.Ordinarily I would get the camera down there to see exactly what I was dealing with in case it was tree roots,collapsed/broken pipe, uric acid build up etc,but you seem confident that it's textile based wipes which do not break down like normal bog roll and I'd be incined to go with that.

Ok, not completely ****, but for loos they're not so good IMO. Trouble is they're a bit too rigid to get a half decent seal in the bowl, in my experience (as a 20 year working plumber) there's too much sloshing and not enough pumping. Each to their own of course.

Well, this is getting really exciting now!

The bog has had two lots of "Knock out" (sulphuric acid based) down there and nothing shifted.

I have had all Mrs ME's office carpet, underlay and floor up to reveal a sealed manhole.

We have just had Dyno Rod out and they guy has lifted the shared sewer access pit in the back garden and it is full to the brim.

We are now awaiting Anglian Water to come out on an emergency 24 hour call out.

I am just off upstairs to get one of the kids armbands out of storage. Does anyone know the best swimming stroke for sewage?
