Dekers
thinking of changing my webley and scott 912 for a hatsan escort are they any good Have you been living in a cave for the last few years, search the history here or any shooting forum you can find. They are very possibly the worst semi ever made!
Spiderdude
They are one of the best value semi's you can buy... As reliable as any other gun on the market, just because they are priced below the top brands they are dismissed as rubbish. You'll find as many problems with Beretta, Winchester, Browning, etc as you will Hatsans.
bicykillgaz
keep it clean and stick to 28g or above and 67mm or longer carts and you'll have no problems

Yes, you are naive (you may still work for them as well), NOBODY whose opinion is worth listening to dismisses anything because they are less expensive than something else. The only people who stick their noses in the air on price are idiots. The shotgun world has nowhere near the snobbery that many like to suggest, it is only those who think they are clever that make dumb comments, the ones that are clever never need to! Hatsans are dismissed on their appalling reliability and safety record, not their price!
Spiderdude
Edit ...and why does it appear you got rid of your Escort but kept your Beretta? Because I wanted to keep my O/U and wanted a cheap O/U for the field! Hope that is ok with you?

Maidment78
Love these posts, make me realise my life is not so bad after all. Ps my Hatsan is great, never jammed, never missed, never put away dirty. Like all shotguns, try it, like it, buy it. SIMPLES!
escortmagnum999
iv got one, would buy another one tomorrow if i needed one. its a great knock about gun, it gets used and abused, keep it clean and itl stand you right.
coneyhunter
ive had mine for 3 months and havent had too many issues, i noticed if i leave it cocked in a hide for a period of time it will not fire ( and we are talking several hours) and it will not entertain cycling 67mm carts, however 70mm and 3s go through it fine, it doesnt however eject the shells very far, they sort of drop out, my SKB semi auto is a lot better and as a result is used more
Jackroadkill
Mine was great - hard working, cycled well if kept clean (which it always was), basic and reliable - just what a field gun should be. They don't like getting full of ****, but other than an AK47, which gun does? A good, cheap, no-frills semi.
J@mes
People who own them generally like them. People who don't generally have a mate/brother/colleague/neighbour/heard a rumor that one might have jammed once and think the every other one sold is ****. Picked my phase 2 version (curved butt plate) up for £160 when it was 6 months old, put 300 cartridges through it in one day at the clayground with a couple of mates, probably another 2K though it on my own and fired anything from 21 to 50grams through it, with no jams at all. M.I.A
Mine has been great (hope I don't regret writing this lol) Its had around 1k through it, never once cleaned and it has never ever jammed! Cycles 24g no problem, cycles true 65mm no problem. I can't fault it. I have fired on numerous times 3 rounds in extremely quick concession and guess what, never misfed. Its always the same with the internet, everyone is too quick to judge, based on a few bad reports, I mean for every unhappy person there is probably thousands of happy people! Escorts of old may be bad, but mine has never let me down! Not one person I know has ever had a Problem with there hatsan! I should add mine is the newest model. 2011, with the redesigned gas system I will also add that I had took it out on sunday for my brother in law to use and it had been left cocked, for around 2 weeks. Fired every shot no problem, I don't think that leaving them cocked for a few hours would make it not fire, if that's the case you need to get your hammer spring changed. I have also never fired anything lighter than 24g but I would be confident putting 21g through it and I shouldn't imagine it struggling, I will get a box soon and put the theory to the test! phaedra1106
Got 2 Semis and an O/U, would I buy another if one of them dies? ....... you bet I would, mine are cleaned the same amount as any of my guns and are as equally reliable based on 4+ years use. springer14
Just picked up my second escort, sold my first one to a mate as I needed a game gun for walked up days,we're both wildfowlers and clay shooters, his escort is still going strong with no problems at all,I can't afford the 2 guns so the o/u was swapped back for the escort as I'll be doing more w/fowling and pigeon shooting. Does what it says on the tin, honest cheap RELIABLE gun.
Spara Dritto
Don't get one if you have to order it. Edgar Bros / Hatsan are so ******* slow. I've been told it would take a month. A month has passed. I was then told an extra 2 weeks because they are being proofed. 2 weeks have now gone. I called up and now I've been told mine wasn't sent off for proofing it’s in the next batch in a few days and expect to wait another 3 weeks. So angry it's not even funny. They are complete S… Stay away from them It’s gone beyond a joke. Edited November 4, 2011 by Beretta Italy
phaedra1106
Viking Arms are no better, ordered my .44 Henry Big Boy and told it was at proof so would be a week, 5 weeks later after being told it would be another week twice and then that it would be here last Friday it finally turned up Tuesday, with a dent in the brass butt plate and scratches on the brass receiver :( RFD offered me £20 off as Viking don't have another and didn't know when they would get one, also promised to send out a replacement plate "at some time" but no idea when :( I emailed Henry directly and they told me I had to go to a distributor, emailed back explaining the delays, porkies and obvious lack of quality control etc., said I was very unhappy with their response and they are now sending me a complete set of wood!, butt plates are factory fitted to the stock as a one piece item (so Viking couldn't send one out anyway) and they included a fore end just in case there's any difference in the wood!.
