lucas
I currently wear solomon walking boots with gaitors but they have seen better days so have decided to ask father christmas for some hunting boots. I do game/decoying/claying so quite a veriaty. I dont do wildfouling so wellies arent needed. Id rather also not wear wellies. So people what do you use/wear or do you have any recomendatins and where to buy online?. ive seen quite a few which are pretty much a walking boot but are "camo" etc. i have also seen ones where their is like a rubber reinforcement 1/2 way up the boot. i need some what are comfortable on long drives etc but man enough to take a fair beating. Dr_evil
Have you considered assault boots ? I use the US special forces ones and they're great, warm enough but more importantly a 1.5t toe cap, zip side, fully waterproof, comfy and slip resistant
Gimlet
I've always steered clear of specific 'hunting' boots because they look to me like shockingly expensive hiking books with a strong wiff of the 'huntin shootin n fishin' fashion victim about them which explains the price. That said I did buy a pair of Lowa mountain boots at the midland gamefair from Soldier Of Fortune for £100 (£30 off which wasn't bad). They are fully waterproof and very comfortably. Haven't had a winter in them of course, but as they're made in Germany I've got high hopes. Sorry thats not much help that is it, but it is getting late... Dr_evil
Oh just noticed you said they need to be up to driving I've driven 100 mile plus trips in mine and they've never given me a problem

Albert 888
Lowa boots all the way leather with goretex membrane.if the membrane breaks down just use boot wax. They can also be resoled which mine will be getting treated to soon.If the special forces wear them they cant be bad.Beware they do a copy somtimes listed as lowa.Lowa boots have the name imprinted in the leather.£130 or there abouts
Tom&Dexter
Another vote hear for Lowa Had mine for over 6yrs now and have been all over the world with me Even wore them in the desert for 5 month where after 6 weeks the soles on my alt-berg desert boots came off due to the glue failing in the heat Very good boot

WGD
Meindl Dovre Extreme GTX or Harkila Pro-hunter. Expensive yes but there is nothing in any hiking boot range that has the leg height you need (IMO) for a proper all day hunting/shooting boot. J@mes
Scarpa ZG65 XCR here. Comfortable enough to spend a week hiking in the lakes, warm enough to walk 10K in snow when it was -15*c. Clean up beautifully with a stiff brush! The only thing I will say is get some decent socks too, I bought a pair of £13 bridgedale socks and the £9.99 for two pairs Blacks version and every day I wore the blacks ones I wished I had the bridgedale socks on! You'll get massive benefit from being measured for them properly too. The lad in Cotswold Outdoor spent ages measuring my feet in all different ways and then suggested boots that I try on due to shape/ size of my feet and what my arches did. Far better than going "yeh I'm a size 9 so that's what I'll order."
barrelsniffer
I also have a pair of lowas..2 pairs both different but also have a pair of HanWag Special Forces GTX Boot very similar to lowas but i find these softer on the sole. http://www.thekeswickbootco.co.uk/products/HanWag-Special-Forces-GTX-Boot-.html Mick

Loki
Hi I would recomend Altberg in Richmond - for probably less than the price of many 'off the shelf boots' you can go and get a 'bespoke' pair made to measure for your feet. They will talk through the different soles/leather/lining options and let you decide............my pair of stalking/hiking boots still going well after some 7 years ( I do look after them after each trek/stalk). ....and they can resole/repair should the need arise from wear and tear. Cheers L

I use the non Goretex version for work as I expect to be wet through but the GTX would be spot on for shooting. In my opinion far better than Lowa military boots after owning three pairs. Never thought I'd find better but the Hanwags are on another level. Edited November 17, 2011 by Gregthegreat
Salop Matt
Danner boots are also excellent and I belive its what there DF (GSG9 wear) Lowa Meindl
Dr_evil
Gonna have to stop you there Not all Danners are good, the US made ones are but the other ones aren't also the Ft Worth ones suck and they're from the US Check the reviews on their own site before you buy a pair, I'm getting the original Danners which are still US made and 4 star rated (only let down due to weight) unlike the new boots which break after a few months
Dougy
look for a 4 season + walking boot on the www, go for one with as few stitched seams as possible ideally just the one moulded piece of leather. The less seams the boot has the less likely to split or let water through My link Edited November 17, 2011 by Dougy
matone
Another vote for Lowa and Meindl here ! Used both for years and only the soles let go eventually, costs circa £50 to resole them.
jef
I wouldn't go past Meindl. However John Norris has half price Harkila @ £105 IIRC. JF
