dan-250
Tell me how you get on as I wan a sxs for claying. I think they just look so much better, and is it harder to change to/get used to them ?

Somewhat different to my semi. Any tips please. I would raise the comb a bit as most sxs shoot flat.if you tape on strips of card until you can see a bit of rib you can get it to shoot the same as an o/u or auto. bornfree

Maidment78
Love my SxS for clays, I will never win comps but my avaerage is about the same if not better with the Sxs as it just feels so much better to shoot with. Also having damascus barrels it looks great too! I also use a 16 bore SxS hammer gun, getting use to the second shot took a while with the first hammer up as it sometimes gets in the sight picture but again when you get used to it it is fine. unclestuffy
Pattern your gun as I have an AYA no4 28" as the right (full choke) shoots lower that the left (half choke) which can make a difference on dropping clays. Great gun though and I find that it does swing well - I personally don't have a problem with the comb height.
EdSolomons
Marmots I think either love them or hate them. I've never found them to be anything less than horrific to shoot for clays but obviously plenty people like them- give it a try and see how you go! matone
I`ve used my s/sides to shoot many 10k`s of clays, the best thing that ever happened were 24g loads! If your gun carries a bit of choke use fibre wads for best effect. Enjoy your day!
EdSolomons
Not saying it won't work, just that I'd rather use an airgun or a catapult!

Mr Magoo
Great time. I didn't hit quite as much as the Semi but with a 1/2 and full it was good fun. I was also surprised by how little recoil there was. Hitting a driven with a full choke just made my day, it was dust. I have just got a Winchester 101 xtr so I will be trying that next time. :good:
dougall
I'm from the sxs look nicer but are harder to shoot camp. How many serious clay competition shooters use s x s?I can think of none in the modern era (yes Stanbury won lots including National Skeet with s/s choked full/full when we/our parents were in nappies)..why is that?...Personally reckon to be a good 10% worse with sxs on clays,as s x s are usually lighter they are more uncomfortable when shooting 100 shots in quick succession, target acquistion is a bit harder etc. The heart says s x s, the head/shoulder/scores say o/u. SXS are and were really designed as game guns, a number of o/u have been developed as clay specialist guns... s/s seem to be better as lighter game guns, rarely have long barrels and do not absorb the recoil as well as o/u.I occassionally take a s/s to a fun shoot/Xmas clays 'cos its fun...but if I want to score half competitively I don't! Personally would love to see Bill Bloggs from England win the double trap with his Grandads William Powell sidelock.......but somehow don't believe it will happen! Down to personal choice of course and good luck whichever way you go!
Mr Magoo
After some research it turns out that it is an AYA Matador, getting a bit rare these days. It has a half and extra full chokes.

Salopian
Jason Abbott & Mark Marshall have both used SxS to good effect on clays, Simon Ward was second or third in The British a few years ago at Southern Counties with a SxS. A very useful tip is to allow your thumb of your front hand to sit on the barrel. This effectively blocks off the vision of the 'off' eye and allows you to clear focus down the rib at the target.
