Alpha Mule
Guys, Do you remove your moderator after shooting? I've been leaving mine on, but with the barrel pointed down. However: I've just read a story about someone who did this and now has a pitted barrel. Well, do you?
Billy.
I don't remove them.
bullet boy
I always remove my T8 moderator as i always wipe my rifle over with a rag after shooting to take any residue of moisture off.
sodit
I take mine off Alloy mod + steel barrel (.22LR) not good in long term storage how ever you clean and oil after use. My opinion and I sure others will disagree but having seen the effects of electrolytic corrosion just by stuffing a piece of ally in with some metal files I aint risking it. I dont want to have to machine off the mod when unscrewing it takes 10 seconds. neil Edited January 25, 2012 by sodit
Dunkield
Centrefire everytime. Rimfire never
camokid
i allways loosen all mods so they dont stick . and they do stick good
Vipa
The very rapid post cleaning and storing corrossion of the crown and first half inch of rifling on my Sako TRG looks like it was due to me leaving the muzzle break on! knackered in the space of 6 weeks!!! Take it off!
artschool
yes I remove and store separately.
wyatt
Friend of mine always removes his from his rimmys and CF. He had to have a rifle re-barrelled due to corrosion with his first gun. You can get a build up of chemicals/water inside, some mods appear to have more of an affect than others!
bullet boy
T8 mods are prone to rusting very quickly so i make sure mine is completely dry before storing away.
jay222
I do on centrefires the crown on my .223 has pitting damage on it from leaving the mod on once after shooting and forgetting to take it off, so it's away being re crowned although on the brightside it means I'm having to use my .308 for foxing
Bry-M
Definitely, the moisture & chemical residue along with electrolytic action WILL damage the barrel. Not worth the risk for the few seconds it takes to unscrew and clean.
Dekers
Always take the mods of my cf's and clean, they are all P8's (and the rifles) after every use, then they go back on and are stored mod down as well, no problem. The rimfire mods get cleaned as required and live on the rifles!
Tomm
does removing the mod not alter your zero atall?
Beretta28g
Centerfire always. Rimefire, unless theres a problem, never
Beretta28g
The tthread is so fine it should not do, unless the mod touches something and destroys the harmonics.
telf
always after every outing, even on the .22 although it doesnt need it,but the **** that comes out of the hmr is terrible, and then stored seperatley
Salop Matt
I allways take mine off my HMR, it only takes 3-4seconds and then theres no doubt etc !
Redgum
Always take mine off the centrefires and store them seperatly as I clean my barrels after each outing. With the .22lr and HMR I clean the rifles and put the mods on the radiator, once dry put them back on the guns before putting away. Ps I have done loads of accuracy testing using this regime ie clean barrel and on/off with mod and no problems. Blunderbust
Always take mine off and store them in a separate location from the guns.
Blunderbuss
Always. The condensation dissolves sulphates and nitrates in the firing residue and forms a weak nitric or sulphuric acid solution. Have a guess what that can do to the crown or bore.
