Hawk kite scarers

One of the farms I shoot over has recently invested in a number of hawk kites. However they do not seem to have any effect on the wood pigeons. Twice last week I saw flocks of pigeons feeding within 20 yards of the hawk kites and none in other parts of the field. I would guess the main problem is we mainly have just buzzards in my area that do not seem to worry the pigeons . If we had pergrines or goshawks it might be another story. What effect do hawk kites have in your area?

farm I shoot has about 4 of these things in his fields ( he told me to just lift them off the spike and lay them down when I wanted to shoot) big things they are, the fibre glass poles are nigh on 20ft high and the "hawk" is about 5 ft across, told him he was wasting his time as less birds came across the field I decided to shoot with the things down than when we had watched the field whilst the "hawks were up" they look good but I think the only thing they fib is us.

these are the boys

They are the portek one's. The kites are great but i don't rate the globe's really, I've seen them on a field of greens and pigeons have been feeding underneath them.

the farmer i shoot for has four of these scare'em kites one field that had one sited only kept the pigeons off for four or five days then they where feeding on the rape a 100 yds behind it

Just proves what i said before, you need to move them every so often! They will be 100yrds today, 80yrds tomorrow, 60yrds the day after, and before you know it they're not doing any good at all!

I have tried ALL of the Hawk Bird Scaring kites on the market and the VERY BEST by far is the Scarem brand.

They are the strongest pole by far and the kites work even in the highest winds.

The instructions say to take down the kite in strong winds but who has the time!

BUY SCAREM that's what I say and John Galloway is so knowledgeable about pigeons and about his product - a real gentleman

The hawk kites seemed to be the thing a few years ago in my area, but they didn't seem to have much effect and I haven't seen them around for quite a while.

Pigeons will feed on fields with string bangers, gas guns, white fertilizer bags on sticks, scarecrows (even the ones with the stick pointing into the air) , disco balls on poles and just about every other gadget you can think of.

The best thing to keep pigeons off the crops is a bloke in a hide.

Same goes for any pigeon scaring stuff be it bangers kites or spinning globes. Move them regularly and they will help a great deal.

One thing we have found that works very well is white carrier bags tied to canes. You need a lot of them but they 100% definitely work very well.

It is what we use in our cabbage fields.
