The Sniper
IF... and I say IF..these are the same sort of NBC suits that we use at the local paintball site, that I help out at, they are not waterproof. Plus, be prepared for a layer of charcoal lining that you have to get off them ( a few washes does it ), or else you will come home looking like you have done a few shifts down the pit. Lancs Lad
Thanks O & N, I just got one. AndyCM Yep, they are NBC Suits unless they have changed since I was in the army........You will find the trousers a pain in the **** as they are quite big and baggy to go over the rest of your gear..... You will sweat you balls off in the summer, but they are good for keeping you warm in the winter.... They are NOT WATERPROOF. Previous comment about the charcoal lining is correct........ we used to "cheat" on exercise in the summer by removing the charcoal lining to make it more user friendly.....of course, you would be ******** in a chem attack.....but we were only playing... Hi Sniper / Hi LL, I guess at £8 odd each (after p&p) I am not expecting much - they'll be added to the shooting wardrobe (hanging in the garage) and if they match the conditions will get an outing - if not they will be left behind for another day. Cheers AndyCM

Highlander
Bargain on ebay I don't think so, have you seen the prices some of the kit goes for? Even second hand then add the postage and you'd be better off visiting your local shop/dealer. Who's bidding for it all What did you expect for £8 anyway? Musto, Barbour etc Enjoy getting wet cold and miserable in it...just like the poor conscript who last wore it...without a choice Did they get all the blood off it
Dave-G
Both me and my grandson have them - even when worn over white trousers (in the winter) there is no sign of any charcoal staining. you can also kneel or even lay on wet grass and remain dry. Sweat buckets in warm weather though.
Whitebridges
Buy it now for £11.99 Seriously dated materials (1980's) but you can't rule it out for those on a budget. Shame the fly on the trousers are always ****! Here's the kit from the advert:

Cranfield
A friend of mine bought one and reckons, they are not waterproof, they are noisy, you sweat buckets just walking about and they are shiny when wet. He sold his at a Boot Fair for a fiver. Pays yer money, takes yer choice.

He sold his at a Boot Fair for a fiver. Pays yer money, takes yer choice. Crany....you must be on about the OLD waterproof set. these were orrible and nasty jobs made out of PVC or what ever type of material they were. These were issued before the wonders of goretex....and if you did wear them, you burn holes under the arms and mainly wore the jackets Under your normal combat jacket... Sneaking up on the enemy whilst wearing military issue waterproofs is a big no no................. With the onset of goretex, and them being issued out to the general military in the late 90s, you saw a great influx of the old style jackets and trousers coming around in your surplus shops.....and thankfuly and feckwit civvie who whats to buy them, feel free..........you get as wet on the inside as you would have done not wearing them at all..............infact,,,,,,I dont even remember wearing the full set of mine on manouvers........unless stationery and bivvied up on stag. As for not getting covered in the black stuff.............................belive me,,,,,,,,going up hill, in full gear,,,webbing, bergen, clansman radio on your back and hefting you old skool SLR, whilst wearing your NBC suit over your general combats..................did I mention the respirator........................... How much do I hate Otterburn training area............and getting bugged out of a fire trench that has taken you over 12 hours to dig on your own.....which was normaly a 2 man job...............no sleep...........no food.......been on the go since 0600hrs the morning before...............ahh.......the memories...... NBC suit...........ok for keeping you warm.........and there isnt a zip up fly........its a draw cord job and funny when you have to take a ****e in the full gear..... Am I ranting........ Cranfield
Lancs Lad, I am referring to the suit advertised on eBay, as mentioned in the first post on this thread. Made of Goretex ? I don't think so. I think we are talking about completely different pieces of equipment.
henry d
The only advantage with the activated charcoal liner is they keep body odours down and it is claimed that this is the dogs for deer stalking............and personally I have worn them in mild weather and won`t again. Zapp
this isnt a goretex suit but like i said from the start for £10 + p&p what more do you want full respect to lancs lad as ex military knowledge goes along way in my books but im not saying the suits great im just saying for what you pay its a bargain rgds oldandnew To clarify, I think Lancs Lad had come to the (correct in my opinion) conclusion that cranner's mate had bought a set of pre soldier 95 waterproofs, and NOT an NBC suit as advertised on ebay. The pre S-95 waterproofs, also known as "the crisp bag" by anyone who has ever tried to move queitly in one, was a complete load of ****. When S-95 was issued (I didnt get mine until 99... got to love MOD procurements), we got a nice (but still a bit noisy) goretex one. The NBC suits as seen on ebay are NOT waterproof, they are just very thick material. Sit long enough in the wet and you will get soaked (they weigh a ton wet too). The do indeed have a layer of charcoal inside, but I suspect the ones on ebay are probably old and will therefore have lost much of their lining. Hope this helps! NickHead
Hi Guys, If it was an NBC Suit, it will be the same as mine that I also got off Eb** for 50p. I checked it out and saw that the charcoal came off and stained any clothes underneath. So, I removed all the charcoal and was left with a thin layer of camo. This was ideal for covering my rifle and had the added advantage of being light. I am a bit more savvy now and steer clear of them....... Zapp
I remember being out on the lash a few years ago and there was a young lad in the pub who had an NBC suit top on (along with baseball cap at wierd angle, white trainers and a white shirt, you know the sort). I went over to him and said "I hope thats not an expensive shirt you're wearing under that". He asked why (it was an expensive shirt) and I told him to take the NBC overjacket off and see. He looked like he'd done 12 hours down 't pit. I've never heard such language! Turns out he'd bought it that afternoon at the market on some hip hop clothing stall
