Their are several ways of doing it (I tried most when my own were stuck), just do a search and you will get them. I ended up sending my gun to a gunsmith, it only cost me £20 about 1.5 years ago. If they are really stuck, then the gunsmith is the only way.

I ended up soaking my chokes in vinegar and wrapping a cloth using mole grips to get it out ( had to reblue after though :blush: ) :good:

Be Carefull having these chokes taken out I have seen some of the tools used for removing chokes and they can cause a lot of damage to your barrels, if you cover the postage I will have a go for you. pm me if you wish.

I had the same problem several years ago and my smith advised me to soak the threads with Kroil and give it a few days to work. Kroil is a penetrent that is supposed to "eat" rust. Give it a good application and stand on end, you will need a decent tool to fit the tube. I wouldn't pay what your smith asks for that simple service.

Gunsmith at Bywell told me first thing they would do with stuck chokes is stand in diesel for a couple of days!

:good::good:

Diesel will penetrate better than most things, even better than WD40. stand in diesel for a couple of days and then apply heat the the outer of the barrel, hair dry on its hottest setting will do it. if you can get a steel bar the size of the bore then it will help also. put the bar in the freezer to get it really cold. make sure there's no burrs to scratch the bore.

warm the barrle until it is nice and toastie, while it is still hot you need to put the cold bar in the choke. it will only take 10-15 seconds to work, then quickly remove bar and with a good fitting choke key give it a turn.

once out i would get your bronze brush and spin it on the thread in the barrel. clean it very well.

another way is to soak in diesel and then go shoot a load of clays. the heat and banging should help to loosen every thing up.

If you was closer i would get to to bring it around.

I use diesel to free siezed threads. It's always worked for me. Might need to stand for a couple of days in it though. If you drop some in a pot and stand it muzzle down to give it time to soak into the threads. :yes:

The best way is to stuff the barrel firmly with a cloth in the area of the chokes , pour hot water on the clothes, as hot as you possibly can, leave for a few minutes and repeat.

Quickly pull the clothes from the barrels and use the choke key to release the chokes.

If you can apply heat to the outside of the barrels at the same time, by way of hot towels etc, this will help.

Do not forget to thoroughly dry the barrels afterwards.

I have a gun with choke stuck,left in pot of wd40 for nearly a week,heated barrell with hot air gun and used big spanners to try and get it out :no: :no: :no: filed it flush and got it blued.

Mossberg chokes now in sales thread :oops: at least it was the half choke that got stuck,that will do most of what i want.
