Hi everyone, just seeing if anyone has experienced this to see what I can do. I have a barking dog waking me up every morning at 6.30am it lives in the neighbours garden about 4 doors down, it barks constantly untill it is let in mostly for approx 30-40 mins so any ideas would be great.

It's not the dogs fault, it's your idiot thicko brain dead neighbours fault for having no consideration for other people. Something that seems to be happening far more these day's and it really gets my goat. Go and have a word and if that doesn't work then start the ball rolling with the council.

If you feel able to, speak to your neighbour and explain that their dog is disturbing your sleep. If they are considerate people, they will try their best to ensure the dog does not disturb you, or anyone else.

If they refuse to acknowledge you or are not prepared to deal with the issue then you can contact the local council. They are able to issue a Noise Abatement Order, requiring them to ensure the dog remains quiet at certain times. If they fail to comply then they would be issued a fine. Most councils will suggest you speak to the owners first, then complete a log of dates and times the dog has barked before they fully investigate.

Hope this helps.

If its four doors down chances are there are potentially at least three people more hacked off with it than you are. Let them sort it out.

carefull, if you go staight to the council it can be more antogonsistic than a chat. if you are of the mind that the chat will start a fued why not try an anonimous letter, though keep it polite- maybee with the contact details of a recomended animal behavourist? once a complait is taken by the council you must disclose it in the future if you ever sell the home- think about that!

I must say it sounds an easy fix on the dog. In its mind it tells the owner when its awake by barking and gets let in to be fed etc. Classical conditioning in practice, in the dogs mind its doing the right / desired thing

As said above really, the first thing should be to speak to the neighbour about it first (unless there is a good reason not to), that's the first way to sort problems out. It's not nice if a considerate person suddenly gets hassle from the council about an issue without the person affected trying to sort it out with them first, it leaves bad feeling.

I had it for 3 and a half years with the trash that moved in next door to me. Two poxy westies unwalked in all that time, constantly disturbing us, even at 2 in the morning. To my delight they put the for sale board up and a builder bought their house and they went on friday. I involved the council after trying to be reasonable with them but they were low on I.Q. and high on their rights to disturb others. The council do try their best and they paid a couple of visits but really the situation never got much better. I feel for you mate, it got me down but dont let it get you down. :good:

tone generator off ebay, i had a problem with a neighbours dog and ultrasonic didnt work so got a tone generator and a big external speaker and whacked it to full volume which was about 140 decibels. did the job for me at 40 metres range, the neighbours think they have a really obedient dog.

If this had been a cat thread it would have been locked by now - I am quite amazed at my restraint as a proffessed dog loather and have refrained now on two posts about dogs to lower myself to make comments that would be made on cat threads

Hope you sort it out prefferably poisoning the owners first.

laxatives, chuck a few bars of that chocolate exlax over their fence for the dog and wait...

It'll just carry on barking whilst S hitting everywhere..

Word of advice....If you do go down the Laxative route.....ignore my 1st suggestion.
