Another ton up.

It was about time i shot a good bag of pigeons on peas, this year. On friday i got my chance. I had looked at a few fields over the previous couple of days but only one really stood out as being a possible 100+ field. Both times i had checked the field there was more than 500 feeding. As i've also had a few ton bags in this area over the last few years, things looked promising. The only thing that could ruin it was the weather.

So, after only 2 hours sleep (due to work) i was off to my field. I had a mate (Carl) with me.

After discussing where to go and what gear to use, we went and got set up. This was at 11am.

We set the hide out in the open - no hedge/bush/tree needed to set up next to. The pigeons proved to take no notice of it what-so-ever. The decoys consisted of just 1 magnet, 6 dead birds on cradles and 2 dead birds on 'glider' cradles.

We started well, shooting over 30 in the first hour. Things looked good. Then the rain started... along with the thunder and lightning. We got pretty wet but it blew over in about 10 minutes. For the rest of the day it stayed pretty dry, but the wind got up and made the shooting difficult. Another thing we could have done without was the pigeons coming in lots of 10 a lot of the time - sometimes as many as thirty in some bunches. If they'd have been kinder and come in 2s and 3s, i reckon 300 could have been shot.

As difficult as the shooting was at times, i still managed a triple with the xtrema and a 2 with 1 shot, along with the many left and rights we both got.

It was just a matter of time before the magic 100 was up. That figure was reached by 2pm ish.

Of course, we hoped for many more and they continued to decoy really well to the small pattern, only a few dead birds layed down to bulk it out a bit.

In the end the tap was turned off slightly. By 4pm the pigeons had began to ignore our layout, possibly due to be shot into earlier. We decided to pack up.

It was a great few hours, we shot 154 pigeons.

Excellent Motty.

There's never any peas for me to shoot over, I'm quite jealous.

Thats how it goes isn't it ?

By the way, Surf's rule OK. :good:

We didn't count the cartridges, but we wouldn't have used more than 300, maybe 250.

excellent mate nice going :good: many young one among them? we are getting quite a few young ones up here.

Yes, we did have 4 or 5 in the bag, we let some fly on unshot, too.

your having a great year up to now and certainly no shortage of pigeon round your neck of the woods :good:

Yeah, the year started slowly, but the last few weeks have been brilliant.

Well done! What camo net is that you're using? :good:

We used an original stealth net around the front, a brown stealth net around the back, with a bit of old army camo net, too.

Excellent Motty.

I'm extremely lucky, i shoot for a pea contractor who normally grows over 1000 acres each year, so i have plenty to choose from.

Yes, i love my surf.I'd love it even more if i could squeeze 30 mpg out of it.

Getting off the subject a bit here I know, but, is it an Intercooler version. Mine is, and I get over 30mpg if I keep at 70mph or below on a run. I've had it for 6 years and I can't see me getting shut yet.
