We had a call on Thursday that the pigeons were hitting the wheat again, we looked at this farm last week but no birds were present. Picked DB up at 09.00 and decided to look at all our rape fields on the way, the most we saw was twenty odd birds down and not one bird flying. We arrived at the wheat at 10.30 and it had about fifty crows and two pigeon on the field, we shot two crows and waited to see if they return after thirty minutes nothing returned. Talking to a dog walker he said that it was shot yesterday!!!! went and saw the farmer and he said that a lad from the village who goes to school with his son asked if he could shoot yesterday and he did not think it would make any difference. We politly left and I said that I would shoot it in the week. We moved on to a rape field that had been cut last week and watched, nothing came near it . So we phoned round and asked if anybody was cutting. One farmer said that he had just started and there were loads about, so off we set. We had to set up next to the combine trailer as that was the coolest part of the field with the wind off our backs. We have never shot a field as they combine it before as we would leave it for a few days to build up but we shot from 13.00 to 17.00 and picked up one hundred and fourteen birds.

Saturday, picked up DB at 09.00 and started looking, drove round loads of farms and again no birds, we went past fields of cut rape no birds. So we decided to head back to the field we shot yesterday and on the way we past a clover field and just happend to see three birds drop in. Now it was pretty hot at this point and we thought that the birds were looking for moisture as we watched it we saw a steady stream of birds heading off over the hill only to come back high in the air and headed to an old barley stubble so we drove down the barley which we had driven yesterday and today earlier and all along the bottom edge we saw the flock. WE FOUND THEM!!!! We came to the conclusion that we were going out too early in the morning and missing feeding birds. So a call to the farmer and we set up. As we did we could hear shooting in the distance ( Bunny Bashers land) any way as they shot it forced birds over to us and we pushed them back. We started at 14.00 and shot till 18.15 and picked up two hundred and seven. The dog took a liking to one and would not put it down.
