Wildfowler
Then i turned it around and turned the taper, this is the last cut before the finish (hence the poor surface finish)
Wildfowler
After finishing the taper i needed to put the chamfer on the end so i put the fixed steady back up. I ended up using both the steady and a smaller washer with the tailstock centre to stop it vibrating. (the block on the end is the aluminium stepped plug) Edited June 22, 2013 by Wildfowler

Big Mat
Thats really looking good now! Out of curiosity, when do you have to get it written onto your licence? I presume when its complete as it wont have a separate action like most shotguns.
Wildfowler
Yeah, pretty much. I plan to start sorting some of that out this week. Currently none of the components will fit together but the next few weeks it will become operational (I hope) so I want it all in place. A couple of mates suggested i should contact a shooting magazine or something and see if they wanted to run it as an article / feature. I haven't yet... and probably wont. Wildfowler
Just another picture of the barrel sleeve with the trunnions in place
Wildfowler
I've had to make some more tooling tonight. This is a spindle support to hold the barrel at the end of opposite end of the spindle tube to the chuck to stop it flailing around or vibrating. This is with the clamping screws in This is how it mounts onto the lathe and supports the barrel. The second set of screws are adjustable so once i turn the barrel OD i can adjust it to suit I made a smaller boring bar and ground up the thread cutting tip too
Wildfowler
I also made another tool to hold the same tip that's used in the boring bar so it cuts exactly the same angles, etc to ensure the thread is as close to perfect fit as possible. Catweazle
I'd be very interested to read more on the thread cutting, especially if you are planning an asymmetrical thread form.

Wildfowler
Here is a short video of the thread cutting. Hopefully it shows what i had said in an earlier post (431) about the ainjest threading attachment. This is about 3/4 of the way there Edited June 25, 2013 by Wildfowler
Wildfowler
This is the finished thread (my iphone doesn't like focusing on the shiny steel close up) This also shows how the ainjest cuts its own end grove to finish the thread.
