Salop Matt
Ive shot fibre wad cartridges for about 5+ years now exculsively and mainly eley firsts. However Ive just bought 500 Eley olympics in plastic wad and found that after my normall cleaning there was streaking infront of the chamber which has never been there before and I had to get the bronze wir brush on the rod and give it plenty of welly to shift this which wasnt easy to do! I prefer the olympics to shoot but dont want this fight when cleaning my barrel evey time ! So is there an easier way to shift this and keep my barrel in tip top condition ? BerettaSV10
I had this problem with my SV in the end bought a chamber brush, where the bronze wires are more tightly packed and slightly wider the the standard bronze brush with some normal barrel cleaner on it, got the streaks of plastic off , Also bought some other cleaner that suposed to take your breath away. Not used this cleaner as the chamber brush did the trick, the chamber brush won't go all the way down the barrel due to its thickness. ste12b
Matt, my routine is as soon as I am back dismantle gun, spray wd40 down the barrel. Leave it in whilst cleaning the rest of the gun. Then use turks head (I think they are sometimes called tornado brushes) brush up and down a few times, then wipe clean. see http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/173386-turks-head-brushes/

P~MX
Froglube !! you really need to give this stuff a try, I've used it on my guns now and I'd never want to use anythin else ! it's soo easily used and soo effective, have a look on Youtube for Froglube videos to see what it's all about and how to use it, I've never actually used the heat gun to heat my barrels (yet) but I've not had to (see the vid to understand about the hair dryer) Froglube isn't just about cleanin the insides of your barrels it's about cleanin all of your gun, it cleans and protects, it's so good and pure with no toxics it's used in hotels & restaurants for cleanin all the saucepans and stainless work surfaces, you can use Froglube on every part of your gun to protect it, it's protect and coat your wood too to keep out water, it'll the job for keepin carbon from formin in your ported chokes or ported barrels and insides of semi auto's, it makes semi auto's soo smooth & silky, it's brilliant (best ever I've used) for removin lead & plastic foulin in the chambers of your barrels, but the best thing of all is (for me) is how once you've got your gun Froglubed it's makes it soo easy and quick to clean your guns, I used to spend an hour every Saturday when we came home from shootin cleanin our 2 guns and now it takes a half hour and that's me bein fussy ! I'm so confident in froglube that if you buy it & try it and you don't like it I'll buy the reminder off you - that's how much I like it ! you can get it in UK from www.xperttactical.com Edited October 2, 2012 by P~MX

ste12b
Ive heard WD40 is bad for you gun It is i use 3in1 I didn't know that. Have you got a link to the reason why it is bad for a barrel please? I have done a quick search and the problem appears to be with using it as an oil. I only use it for cleaning the barrel. It is then wiped out and the barrels wiped (internally and externally) with gun oil. Gordon R
Steve - I think it is one of those urban myths. I was expecting you to extol the virtues of a Turks Head brush. I bought one following your advice - problem solved.
Salop Matt
P~MX, its the ability to shift the plastic am most interested in ! Had a comp this weekend, fired 150 bird shot, 20 buck shot and 20 slug through the sx3. Did the usual and it was clean as a whistle.
BerettaSV10
SV10 what cleaner is that if you dont mind me asking ? I may also have to get one of these brushes ! ATB Matt What I used was Tetra gun degreaser action blaster sprayed it down the tubes left it for a few mins then with the chamber brush roded to clear the deposits, also put the spray on the chaber brush as well. What I also got was Tetra gun copper solvent as suppoed to shift every thing, but I have not tried it as bores were clean after the good rodding. Cosmicblue
Another vote for Napier gun cleaner and lubricant - http://www.napieruk.com/acatalog/Oils__Cleaners_Etc.html spray on, leave for a couple of minutes and then in the copper bore brush on your cleaning rod, job done. Napier claim that it contains 'safe solvents' - my Ultra XS has had probably close to 30,000 plastic wad carts through it and there is no visible plastic streaking in the bores - still mirror-clean. Guest cookoff013
make your own shotgun cleaner, white spirit, oil, and acetone. acetone melts plastic. dont get on wood.
AlistairB
Napier etc are all good, but work even better if you wrap your PB brush in 0000/00000 wire wool - great results. AB
