docholiday
What do people do with brass that is primed but not fit for pupose? I have several that I have loade and have damaged the brass when seating the bullet or the neck hasnt been tight enough so you end up with a loose bullet I have removed the bullets and powder but would assume its to dangerous to re neck size and knock the primer (unfired) out so do you stick them in the rifle and fire the primer or do you destroy the primer and ditch the brass ?? cheers Doc

al4x
then you still have live primers you wouldn't really want to re use, its easy and fast to just shoot them if you are going to bin the brass there isn't much point fannying about with it
docholiday
I HAVE DEPRIMED OVER 20,000 AND NEVER HAD ONE GO OFF DONT HAVE MORE THAN 12 PRIMERS IN THE COLLECTION TRAY AT ANY TIME, WEAR SAFTY GOGGLES AND GO SLOW . deershooter I may be missing something here but how come you have deprimed so many live primers? also I am assuming if you fire the cartridge to use the primer then it would still be ok to reload Edited October 9, 2012 by docholiday

Imperfection
Just de prime brass slowly Yep,thats what i do too. If you're in any doubt stick a pair of safety specs on,but i've popped unfired primers out of brass with no dramatics.

kent
this can go wrong, best to put them in the gun and fire the primer off with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction then carry on as normal. You can also just remove the de-capping pin and reload them with some dies
Vince Green
I have always salvaged the primers. Its best to collect a load of rejects in a duds box over time then have a session. Slowly though and eye protection is smart
steve_b_wales
If you don't want, or can't use the cases again, pour some oil into the case and leave it soak for a day or two. This should disable the primer, and you can then dispose of the cases.
pigeon pete
if you dont want the case ,spray a bit of oil or WD40 inside
kent
I tested this spoiling primers thing a while back and posted the results on another forum (cant remember which, it was years ago) anyway its not as easy as it sounds and although i still avoid contaminating primers when loading. WD40, 3 in 1 oil, motor oil and water were all less than totally reliable and i did quite a few in two batches one almost imediate and the other overnight. The primers were all Fedral match LR and the results can seriously open your eyes. DONT THROW OUT PRIMED CASES IN THE TRASH !

DONT THROW OUT PRIMED CASES IN THE TRASH ! we dont ,we scrap all are old brass and at the end of the year we get cash back for the club ,the brass then goes to a smelt company that smelts the brass cases in a proper ammo furnace ,and you cant allways use the die to remove the primer if you have a damaged case ,and im not going to try and remove them with a nail ,ask your self what would happen if you have a primer go off when you have it in a die !!!! safety first
