Andy135
Good question. No idea, but I guess they're trained to only go in the garden, not when they're out & about.

Anyway i find it rude and disrespectfull! If I was implying they were less responsible or incapable, I would have said that!!! Is this the joke section? I find some posts distasteful, but I can keep my opinions to myself.........

MiLisCer
Legally they do not have to pick it up, but 99.9% of them will, whilst guide dogs are usually trained to go just once a day in the spending pen at home - some will on occasion need to go whilst they are out. They are trained to go in the gutter in such circumstances. How do I know? I am married to an ex GDMI. (Guide dog mobilty instructor) Mike

kent
really cant see any point in the OP question neither could i, so you aint alone. To the OP are you aware that blind people can live alone and do most of the things we can other than see? thier other scenses are often highlighted, i have heard of a blind lady who captured a live wild mouse in her kitchen thinking her friends pet one escaped and popped it into the cage. On her friends return she had two white mice and one grey one! Now ever tried live capture of a wild mouse by hand?

Yes, well aware of their independence and the fact most visually impaired or blind lead a 99% normal life. Yes I also have caught a live wild mouse by hand when I was a boy, the cat brought it in, we chased it around my mother's kitchen for ages, I cornered it and pickedit up and the little **** bit me. chrispti
The conversation was brought up by a mate who watched a dog walker at a local park, fail to pick its dogs mess up. He asked the man to pick it up up and was then told by said dog walker to "F" off. We were discussing how can it be policed, how are people ever caught and fined, has anyone ever actually been fined, can you report people for not picking up their dogs mess ......Etc etc Horses are also ridden in the area, why is it acceptable for them to take a dump in the middle of a track......... Then someone asked about guide dogs and how can the owners be expected to clean up after their dogs ......... But thanks to 2 that bothered to sensibly reply, we now know
ferguson_tom
Cant see the problem with the OPs original question and didnt think he was making a joke at blind peoples expense. I actually asked a dog trainer the same question a couple of years ago as teaching your dog to poo on command is not normally something that you would think of. I have sort of trained both my dogs to do now and its pretty useful before you go in the car on long journey or your going out the house for a while. ETO
Horse manure is allowed as it disintegrates quickly. Dog mess doesn't (unless raw fed..) due to the lack of natural substances and fillers. Hope that clears the last question up. I think it's rather odd that simple questions are jumped on. I saw it as a genuine question. My bitches and neutered male are taught to wee on command. Edited October 22, 2012 by ETO
Peskyfoxs
My dogs are trained to go on command (providing they need to go of vcourse) .. handy at dog shows so they don't go in the ring ... handy when I let them out and its raining so they don't think they are going fopr a run. Easy to do .. simply say word of choice as puppy has a P or Poo and repeat every time, they get the idea

HDAV
Dog faeces contains (can contain) Toxacara Canis which can cause blindness particularly susceptible are young children that is why it is important to pick it up! Not so for other mammals! Due to the lack of parasitic worms. Most professional dogs (sniffer, defence, assistance) are trained to go on command Edited October 22, 2012 by HDAV
al4x
the other thing to remember if you pick it up is if you bag it and leave it in the nearest hedge as most walkers seem to round us it stays there till someone moves it

Why go to the bother of picking it up only to dump it or worse, swing it up a tree.
tigger
As somebody who volunteers for the guide dogs for the blind as a sighted guide and helping with dog training etc 99% of dogs go on command so can go wherever they want normally in the garden before they go out but you would be surprised how easily blind people can locate said poo and pick it up but as has been said legally they do not have to but will most certainly try there best.....
