Canis
Belief of being the incorrect gender is surely a symptom of mental illness . Surely they should treat the illness rather than pander to the symptom of that illness. cutting a mentally ill mans bits off and giving him breast implants iis surely only going to compound the problem . Bry-M
So much ignorance in this thread. Reading between the lines, the reason that girl wants to go back to being a boy is due to the family situation - being kicked out, disowned is too much. She'd rather go back to being unhappy as a boy but (hopefully) reunited with her family than stay as a girl but be depressed and lonely. WelshLamb
What about that pensioner who was on the news recently?? He was in his 70's IIRC, had finally grown bored of playing with his plastic transgender titties, and now wants surgery to go back to being a bloke again?? It's ludicrous

parapilot
I don't think it should be funded on the nhs. A shrink yes, but if they don't have mental health then it should be out of their own pocket. Money could be better spent, there is disabled kids campaigning for funds to be treated abroad, or for specialist equipment needed. Should go on stuff like this rather than a non essential op. henry d
Watch 999 emergency, I think it is called, sometime and see where your bucks are being wasted, by those who overindulge and get into trouble and it covers all three emergency services in Blackpool. EDIT - It`s 999 what`s your emergency C4. Edited October 31, 2012 by henry d
walshie
At the risk of inflaming people on here, I have a genuine question regarding this. If for instance a man is convinced he is, or should be, a woman, what is the difference between him/her and a nutter who is convinced he is Napoleon? Science can grant the first person his wish, but the second person obviously cannot be transported back in time. Are both conditions not mental issues? walshie
Morning Henry. It's a shame I can't seem to post in PW without you jumping on every little word I say. I asked a question. You didn't answer it. You once again chose to dissect my post and give me YOUR opinion on my reasons for that post. I called them him/her to give them the choice of title if they are one sex and wish to be another. And anyone who thinks they are Napoleon is a nutter. Please don't comment on my posts and I won't on yours, however ludicrous I may or may not find them. Thank you.
keg
Seems to be the way of PW atm. I disagree, one person's opinion may seem like ignorance to another but their view may be founded on a different knowledge base. Also, like it or not , we are entitled to free speech. Gram71, i did choke on my tea with that one. Does anyone watch Embarassing Bodies in C4? Chap on there had had the op below but not the boobs, hance why he was on the show. They showed the "ladygarden" close up and i'm sorry it still looked like a P***s chopped off and turned out. As i have said many times on her, i do not judge, his life is his as long as he keeps it that way and i do not have to pay for it. Where do we draw the line?. Being serious, if i had mental health issues about the size of my P***s, should i get an enlargement on the NHS?.
unclestuffy
It is very sad that the person is question is not happy in their skin and who they are - unfortunatley a change of sex has not made the person any more happy with themselves. Changing back wont make them happy either, it is genuinely sad that we could not help this person when the problems/mental health issues first surfaced. If you had testicular cancer and they removed one, should the NHS pay for a replacement so that you don't look "abnormal" the same thing on the seperate ends of the same scale
TaxiDriver
I think alot of the posts on here are made through ignorance, of the fact that transgender issues are far more deeper rooted than simply being any form of mental health issue. castletyne
I thought in cases like this the NHS took its time to make sure it is really what the patient wants and not just jump in maybe get them to live as the opposite sex for a few year Yet other people have to go on a waiting list sometimes for years before they get non urgent treatment
poontang
I don't know how much the original operation cost, but estimates are around the £10,000 mark. Not a massive amount in the grand scale of things. However, a quick search on Ms Cooper shows plenty of TV appearances, newspaper/magazine articles, a Ch4 documentary and various photo sessions. I would expect she got paid for these, so should pay for any reversal surgery. Simples. Edited October 31, 2012 by poontang
ROY
Try around £65,000 for the various treatments counselling and operations!
henry d
...... Also consider what this will cost us for the reversal if that is at all possible!! Go back and read the story, that you posted, again.

artschool
what about people who want to change species? being transpecies is a real issue that the nhs needs to deal with.
