PLEASE. It happens buuuut - I used a video by shooting times/Holland and Holland called "Game Shooting" to follow the style advocated by Ken ? the Chief instructor for H&H and it did help me improve my stance and shooting - there's a second DVD called "the art of game shooting which is also v good. If I had them I'd send them to you but a shooting friend borrowed them 5 years ago ........ Good luck

30-6
When i've had days like that, i put the gun down and mentally think how i would take each bird coming in, then pick up the gun and have another go. Personally my excuses are complacency, poor technique and because i have arthritis pain / stiffness on the day causing mobility problems. It's good to have off days i reckon, puts you in your place and sharpens you up for next time. Like i've said before if we hit everything we aimed at it would get boring. EDIT TO ADD - I've never missed 20 or 30 on the trot, but have missed several, also if i start off well and hit say the first 1/2 dozen, it seems to give confidence and you shoot better. humperdingle
The number of misses is irrelevant - Could have been 5, could have been 50. Either way, on the day, you'd have been disappointed. Don't despair, put it down to a bad day, and remember that however small the bag is, it's still a good day in the countryside, doing what you enjoy
millieminx
Been there, done that....it always happens to either me or my mate on the day to....you get worked up coz they're shooting better which inevitably makes you worse and then beggins a viceous circle....just think like everyone else has said your there having a giggle( even if its at your expence this time) but next time it could quite easily be your friends turn
fenboy
20-30 for none , ever thought about golf or fishing maybe seriously though what is your average day like , if you are getting several where you have a high cartridge to kill ratio then you need to look at your gun fit . if you usually shoot better than that then it may be as already stated you are over thinking and aiming the gun instead of swinging through the bird , we all have days where we miss a few , I even missed one once just remember it is very rare to miss in front so get that gun swinging. The Essex Hunter
You was thinking to much , then probably ended up tracking birds instead of swinging through them at a guess + 1 on that. Had a lad suffering with that so got him to look away and then I would say “know” he would look at the bird and shoot it on instinct. Shooting clays does not help one bit! TEH So when you said "know" by the time he worked out you meant "now" was the pigeon still in range But seriously as I said in my post before thinking about things too much can lead to a miss , and what you suggest is one way to get over it , unless you are shooting alone of course. My good points far out weigh my bad points…..and spelling is one of my bad points….lol It does work ask SA Shooter! All the toys were going right out the hide he had a bottom lip like Mohamed Ali and the birds were heading south lol A quick talking to Essex style and he was right on them. TEH Its ok your still a free man I am not a member of the spelling police , just having a chuckle . Its funny how sometimes snap shooting is easier , we have all missed plenty of those birds that you can see coming from a mile away heading straight into the pattern. GunGuy
As has been said, everybody has off days..... I have had days full of second shot kills.... And very few first shots, I can only put that down to thinking too hard about the first shot, making adjustments etc then taking a more 'instinctive' second shot.
