Probably me getting old, long in the tooth and a complete tight wad, but how can this torch cost £120-160 depending on accessories

is it not just a £8 cree torch clone with a unique magnifying lens on the front ? or am i missing something ?

They look impressive but i wouldnt mind seeing one in real life and judging for myself. I was thinking for one on the HMR & .223 for 50-500 yards

cheers

ok as a rifle mounted lamp to walk about they are excellent, but they are very different to a conventional lamp. The beam is pretty tight but you do get a very good range on it. Where they differ from most is being able to change the LED module rather than having to use a filter, with the red on mine it is superior to my LF170 with red filter. I got mine mostly as i had heard good things about the IR module and indeed having used it you get an awesome picture really like shooting in daylight with my NV to a good 250 yards.

Where you may not like them is if you get a lot less spilled light than a normal lamp so it does take a bit of practice to scan areas properly.

and i am just a satisfied customer!!!!

Phew!!

Glad about that. Just ordered one with red and IR LEDs and the extra battery extension. The fact my Palsar N550 is going back to Thomas Jacks for some fettling gave me the excuse I needed. Looking forward to trying it on my HMR and .222

Did you order a battery to go with the extension? I failed there

Yes! But only because I rang up and ordered over the phone from a very helpful lady with a heavy cold. If I'd ordered online I'd probably have missed it too. She also told me that the extra battery extends distance as well as run time which I hadn't realised. I can definitely see some .222 action coming on.

I have one of these and would say "yes" it is worth it.

Most of us would pay £100-£150 for a good ir laser and probably the same for a good lamp with a lithium battery.

This torch will cover many situations with the different power settings and coloured LEDs available, it's compact, lasts quite a long time on 2 charged batteries, if need be you could carry 2 spare batteries in your pocket, the ir led goes as far as many lasers but is a lot better in the sense it's a lot cleaner picture, for lamping the beam can be nice and concentrated with no overspill like on most other lamps, the pressure switch means it can be mounted onto your rifle and used without the need for someone else holding the lamp.

As far as making your own version, yes it can be done and you may get some self satisfaction out of making something yourself and using it especially if you can save a few quid, but the quality of the nm800 in my opinion is really good and the aftersales service is excellent.

pretty much sums up my feelings on the NM800.

Mine arrived today. I bought a IR kit plus a red LED. The IR is a fiddle to remove so Taclight are going to send me an empty housing section so I can pre-fit them and just change housings rather than faff around trying to get the LED out of the tube. They gave me to understand that they will market them in this way now as its easier, needs no tools and avoids damaging the LED.

I haven't tried the red LED yet until the second housing tube arrives but I've had a go with the IR just with the single battery on my .22 and I have to say it utterly transforms the Pulsar N550. I'm impressed. Detail is sharpened up no end and the image is as clear as a bell to near 200 yds I would say.

I mounted it with a Millet scope ring. A 25mm ring would have fitted perfectly with a single wrap of insulating tape to protect the knurling of the flashlight but I didn't have one that would fit the Pulsar's rail so I had to use a 30mm Millet with plenty of tape. It works perfectly and throws the light bang on the reticle but on a CF it might wobble under recoil with all that tape. This light is crying out for a quick adjusting bracket or ring for Pulsar units.

First impressions very good indeed. I'd like to see one on an Archer.

Oh and top marks to Taclight for swift and helpful service. :good:

you don't really want to see one on an archer :whistling:

lets say on one of the least recommended German scopes going it gives me a true 250 yards shootable distance and probably further on a decent dark night. Thats including being able to wind the magnification up so its not trying to shoot ants at that distance

Well I'm convinced by the IR capability of the Nightmaster but tonight I gave it an outing with the red LED on the .222 after foxes. It was excellent. Clear visibilty and IDing to near 300 yds. I didn't find the tight beam difficult and there was just enough peripheral light to pick up eyeshine before the main beam got there, so I found solo use no problem at all though I did find the sharp square light pool threw my sense of distance a bit till I got used to it, which didn't take long. A sucessful evening which ended with a big dog fox shot at about 100 yds. He was lit up like a Christmas tree with all his markings clearly defined. And it may be my imagination but he seemed less disturbed by the red LED than foxes usually are by red filtered white lights.

I was using a non-illuminated Duralyt and it wasn't till I'd finished that I realised I'd been using it on 12 power after checking the zero earlier in the day. The reticle was clear and I was picking out fenceposts and wire at 300 yds.

So yes I think it is worth the money and I can't say that about every bit of kit I've bought this year. :good:

Edit: Like all these lights though, needs a better clamp.

These lights are absolutely fantastic. Light in weight, extremely good range, good battery life and very sharp beam, or easily adjustable to a more open beam for rabbitting with the .22. etc

Another plus is that when one I had sold to a customer unexpectedly failed it took a single phone call to get a replacement LED and switch cap sent out directly to the customer, no arguments, no inquests and no waiting for the defective parts back first.

The clamp is the least good part but there is work in progress on something better.
