David BASC
Try it, but be honest on the application and list the offences. David

Gordon R
Depends what the motoring offences were. This is a big difference between minor speeding, jumping a red light - compared to causing death by dangerous driving. Assuming they are of a not too serious nature, you should have no problem. bedwards1966
You don't say what they all are. Speeding, using a phone etc aren't that major, and are unlikely to be a problem - though it does suggest you aren't very law abiding. Drink driving on the other hand would probably be a problem, as it's irresponsible and shows a complete disregard for safety and the law. All good sound advice. Ditto, as long as you've not had a custodial sentence imposed of three years or more, in which case, you've no chance of getting one any time soon. Good luck and go for it. Kes
Would you get one if you were objectively and truthfully deciding the issue? If I didn't think I could be trusted with a firearm, I wouldnt apply - too much at stake. But whilst using a mobile phone is stupid whilst driving, it doesnt make you into an irresponsible individual. As said above offences grade from Phone usage through speeding to death by dangerous driving - I had a speeding fine and it wasnt an issue - it will be if you dont declare everything. jgguinness
I had two speeding offences, nothing spectacular, just a couple of sp30's and a CU80, using a phone whilst driving. These were between 3-6 ago. I didn't have any problems. Kind regard Jonathan
HDAV
hi all god the two motoring offences were 30 yrs ago , id hate to pay out for a gun cabinet and £50 for a application to be told no If they reject application you get £50 refunded, the passport photos are the issue £7 in machine I saw the otherday! You don't have to buy a cabinet, only if you intend to store guns at home (some people don't) Good luck with application it isn't bad can just take a long time waiting for interview, just put all the offences down and if you can't remember for £10 the police can print it out iirc just contact local station. KevinClarke
Hi Scubajohn, You will not have any trouble at all,as long as it is in the past. When i was young and stupid i got done for just about every motoring offence(and others) they have ever invented(speeding through red traffic lights, crossing double white lines, driving without insurance, undue care and attention, forcing oncomming traffic to take evasive action, taking without consent, the list goes on and on and i was quite rightly banned within a year of passing my test. 18-20 years on i was a completely different person(no trouble since my silly time) and decided i wanted a SGC and FAC so thought i would give it a go. The Police know every single thing you have ever been in trouble for so just put it all down, they will be able to see if you have become a responsible adult and will base their decision on that. I think if i got one anyone can as long as you can be seen to have changed. All the best. Kev
Iced Tiger
My undue care and attention, speeding and S59 all went on my SGC application, not a problem in my case. The undue care was 30 years ago, speeding was 10 years ago and S59 (that's another story) was 3 years ago. Be honest and put it all down, then you have nothing to hide. evo
Motoring offences won't go against you yes they do,,they went against me,i was told i had driven a motor vehicle twice in one month (no insurance) was not true it was only once and my only conviction for nearly 16 years, and they said because of this i had no respect for the law, total joke,,, so dont let anyone tell you they dont go against you,,just put everything down,be honest and all should be fine ,good luck
MM
Where should i start? Maybe with an IN10, SP30 x 2...... then look at my gun list. Chill out man.
parapilot
Agree with mart, I had 9 points at one time, including IN10 insurance, which I was worried about. I mentioned them all on the form, open and honest. They were not even mentioned at interview, no problem at all. The key is to be honest and list them. As soon as you miss one off they will get all funny with you and make life hard!!!! They know everything about you no point trying to miss one!!!! Just to add, if you are planning to keep your guns at home in a cabinet, you don't have to buy one before you apply. A certificate can still be granted, but they simply won't issue it until they come and check the cabinet. It means the whole process takes slightly longer, but it's a safe way forward.
