Guns have gone in to the RFD for storage, FEO sounded surprised!

Well I wondered how long it would take for the boredom to set in. My FAC expired at the end of last month so I took my guns in to the RFD and bunged them into storage. I've left a few messages with the office since but haven't had any reply.

Yesterday I got a call. They've obviously stumbled across my file whilst cleaning under their desks and it turns out that my list of shotguns that I submitted with my renewal doesn't match their records. Oh joy - the gun in question went ages ago and I can't find a record of where. On a positive note the call seemed very much on the back foot... They wondered if I could help them to establish where it had gone. Hardly a stern telling off for not sending in the paperwork (which I did by the way)!

I figured as he was on the phone I'd see what the chances are of getting my tickets back before Christmas. He can't promise anything. He also pointed out that they would need to do a land check for my .308 because the ground I've listed has only been cleared up to 6.5x55... Well I'm no expert but I'm sure that should have been checked before they let me have the .338 on it two years ago? I made a point that I didn't have my guns at the moment and hoped that they could hurry things along and he actually sounded surprised... Like I'm going to keep them without a valid certificate!

Has anyone been in this position with a sold gun? I'm not sure what I can do to help - I posted the stuff off by recorded delivery so the best I can do is the receipt and by luck, the address of the buyer!

Don't think I haven't tried that. I've sent emails and phoned several times. It always goes to answerphone and I always leave a message but they hadn't got back to me until yesterday. Even then he had no idea that I'd attempted to contact them and was calling about something he'd just stumbled across by chance. They're hard work at the moment that's for sure!

Edit... Hopefully they can find out who the new owner is from the address I provided.

Up here they send you your reminder 3 months before its due to expire saying providing you have applied at least 10 weeks before expiry then its ok to keep your guns after it expires as its their fault

However, if for some reason you dont apply before 10 weeks, then you have to put them into storage upon expiry as its your fault.

Ask them for a temporary certificate, it might hurry them along.

Out of interest how long before expiry did you apply?

you may be able to claim storage fees if its a silly amount of time

:shaun:

I'm sure you have an open ticket don't you mate, do you have to make sure the land is cleared for the calibre when you renew an open ticket or was it a closed ticket.

I run a spread sheet which shows exactly who I have bought and sold guns to/from. I always hand deliver every single wrtten communications I have with them where I record the exact delivery time and date on the right top corner of the envelope and add the details to the spread sheet on returning home. I also note who I handed the envelope to.

I know this is not always possible for others but I am in the fortunate position of having the Police HQ within 18 miles of home. In the case that this was not possible everything would go recorded delivery.

I think you're supposed to have one cleared piece of land that can accomodate the rifles you have. At least that's the way it works here to justify your initial need. Once that's sorted you can do as you please.

I sent it in late, six weeks or so to go. I waited until that point for my paperwork to arrive but it didn't so I went ahead and printed it off myself. They say they sent it three months in advance? According to their guide on the web (can't find it now) it should be a minimum of four weeks notice, which I have met.

I do - but been filling it it incorrect. I put their cert number / rfd in authority to posess. How it was done for me and I followed suit. I didn't thing it was my authority as its on my certificate!!

It gives you the info on your certificate how its to be filled in,a mate of mine got a good telling off because his certificate had been filled in incorrectly.

Twice when iv bought guns private on their cert we put my cert number in that section. Makes sense so you have a record where the gun had gone!!! It should be that way.

Iv never sold a gun, have a large cab and don't need the dosh ATM so I keep everything all sentimental to some degree I get attached like a sado, so my certs clean no telling off haha,

bit late now but I email details to glos FEO and then keep a hard copy on file. I had it a few years ago. they had no record of one of my rifles even though it was bought at the same time and from the same person as one of the other rifles that they did have record of. they had no record of my new shotgun and I still had 2 other shotguns in file that I sold a year before. these I had hand delivered to the glos HQ. hence why I now email and ask for a read receipt. I have to sent in for a 141 very so place the bets on how long it will be in for. hand delivered tomorrow morning.

I am a bit old-fashioned, if I sell a gun, I print up a proper receipt with addresses on, one copy for me, one for the buyer. I keep a ring-binder , with a section for each gun, with sales receipts and service records etc.

One folder could hold records for dozens of guns and still be only half-empty, and everything is instantly to hand
