njc110381
Hey guys. I had a few shots with an old AYA over xmas and really liked it, but it belongs to a colleague of my cousin and getting hold of him again could be a challenge. I asked him what it was but he had no idea - he's a farmer type who couldn't care less as long as it goes bang! All he could tell me is that he bought it when he was 18 which would make it about 30 years old I think. It had very short barrels with AYA in gold on the top of the rib. It was a boxlock ejector with decent scrollwork and had a little engraving plate under the stock. The stock had no butt plate/pad and was quite plain. The trigger guard was also quite heavily engraved and had the serial number of the gun on the tang that screws to the stock at the back. I searched all over it for the model number but couldn't see it. I know that's not much to go by, but is there any way of getting an educated guess as to the model going by these details and the age? JJsDad
AYA 25in Boxlock. The No: 4 is engraved with a 6inch nail and lump hammer around the borders only.
Alycidon
Its a Aya 25 boxlock ejector - I've owned a couple of these, very light and handy, with very nice engraving. With AYA in gold on the rib as described then it cant be a number 3 or 4, No 1 and 2 are sidelocks so it must be a 25 Boxlocl. This is a high grade gun. matone
Nice gun the xxv ,easy to pick up for very reasonable money as the short barrels are out of fashion at the moment.

Catweazle
If you fancy a sidelock ( with hand detachable locks ) that won't break the bank consider a Black Sable Deluxe. It's made by Armas Garbi, very similar to their Model 103 ( which apparently costs £3000 ). They seem to be going up in price now, but you can still find one for £600 ish sometimes. ( I paid £450 for mine a few years ago, seen some go for £850 recently ). http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Shotgun/Sable-Black-Sable-de-Luxe-gun-for-sale-gs79668.aspx http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&sa=X&tbo=d&biw=1536&bih=842&tbm=isch&tbnid=iVcp0af-B0ABOM:&imgrefurl=http://www.gunwatch.co.uk/guns/4200-Gunmark-Black-Sable-Deluxe-Sidelock-Ejector-for-sale&docid=G83AX3BXbprEXM&imgurl=http://www.gunwatch.co.uk/system/images/8575/large/sable.JPG%253F1346166760&w=1024&h=768&ei=-OrhUJ7MC5O00QWvwIGwDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=923&vpy=120&dur=3858&hovh=194&hovw=259&tx=126&ty=126&sig=107334747855782004598&page=1&tbnh=129&tbnw=170&start=0&ndsp=46&ved=1t:429,r:5,s:0,i:
triumphant59
Nice looking gun, didn't realise Garbi made any of the Black or Silver Sables. I used to have one made by Pedro Gorosable (Makers mark P.G.) and I've seen an Arrieta version (makers mark A.C.) Is yours stamped G.A.Garbi? Alycidon
If you are of average height and build try one first, they are very fast onto the target and equally fast off it. If you are short then you will probably get on well with it but someone of average size may be better suited with longer barrels. I do have a mate who is about average who has a 25 sidelock and loves it. As for loads, 28gr Impax is ideal. A

That's not my gun, mine is the silver "coin finish" and has more pronounced engraving. I bow to your superior knowledge of things from Eibar, I just looked on mine and it is indeed stamped P.G ( Pedro Gorosabel ), which I find a tad disappointing but it's still a fine gun. That'll teach me not to believe what I read on the internet ( I spent ages googling it and found several references to Garbi ). It was made in 1974. matone
The Gold Sabel was made by Garbi. The Gunmark Sovereign and Regale by Arrietta, also the Viscount and Crown models. HTH.

Nothing wrong with Pedro Gorosabel guns, have a look at the locks and you will see quality finish. If its a 74 it will have S1 stamped on the barrel flats.
