Just a quick question Chaos.When you cycle your lever-action,can you actually cycle it without taking your fingers out of the lever eg,using back of fingers to do so,or do you have to actually use it like a lever?Many moons ago,a mate had a tripple 4 Marlin,and the action was so stiff none of us could cycle it ala John Wayne,as it bloody hurt! Does it get easier once the action has been worn somewhat? Well, I'm only familiar with the Chiappa 1887 since I don't - *yet* - have rifles on my FAC. I had (to quote Frank Spencer) a "liddle bid of truble" with it and took it back to the importer to be "fixed" (read "kludged"). He asked me whether I'd slicked the gun up but I had not - I'd just *used* it quite a bit. So, "yes", I just gets me trigger finger out of the way and lets rip using my last three fingers in the lever. At least, I *think* so - things get a bit hectic using a lever-action for PSG since it's a *leetle* bit harder to "drive". I *have*, however, just bought my first camcorder and so I intend to make a few YouTube videos of the Chiappa 1887 and the Ithaca M37 DSPS in action. I have stripped it for cleaning this morning but I cant remove the slide, Is this the norm for section 2 Mossberg 500s. It looks like there is a collar welded around the magazine tube where the crimp is. Is there any way of finding out what year it was made as there seem to be a change in the models for when ordering spares and accessories. I'm still not sure whether to just use it as a cheap fun gun or go the whole hog and trick it out like an arm chair COD warrior or zombie appocalipce gun like our cousins over the pond. Welcome to pump club!! my mossy 500 has the date stamped on the barrel (or was it receiver, cant remember), cant help you on the slide as mine section 1 and comes off easy. I do like a zompocalypse gun , what ya thinking? heat shield, shell holder, pistol grip? I've taken a photo but can't post it for some reason. As for the modifications I'm still unsure. My barrel has front and rear sights so i dont know if a heat shield will fit. I do fancy a pistol grip stock and a different forend, just unsure about being able to access the safety with a pistol grip, there seems to be plenty around tho. I've read a lot about the sxp being a bit short in lop? could be sorted with shims etc? For the little extra cash I'd go for the SXP over the field hunter, mainly because the SXP looks a lot nicer... but if it doesnt fit SXP is made for Winchester in Turkey. My mag tube looks like it unscrews too and when I get round to putting in for my FAC I can get an un-restricted one for about £42. the problem was in the youtube videos i've seen the forend tube just slides straight off, mine wont go past what ever is on the mag tube. Is the magazine tube difficult to remove? I susspect mine could be. It looks like they stopped stamping the recievers as ATP in "86 so it could be stuck in there. I dont want to knacker it up and not be able to use it. Grab the tube and twist, I cant see you putting enough pressure on it to break anything if its locked in place some how.
