Had similar thing happen to me years ago. Some nugget claimed to be a copper. I asked to see his warrant card as he seemed a bit sus. He said he didn't have it on him. The look on his face was priceless when I asked him if it looked like mine as I showed him it. Busted!!! Lol

Did you nick him? Please tell me you did.

We all tend to carry mobiles with video capability these days and just the vehicle captured in the field would be enough.

I agree though dont go and see him under any circumstances - it could be easily argued that he felt intimidated and its hard to prove otherwise.

You did the right think and perfectly in my view.

Whether we need to or not, I would advise the police when you next go and tell them there may be a related incident, explain what happened the last time. If he returns just tell him you have informed the police they are expecting a call and you have the evidence on your mobile.

I'd think that would solve both your and the farmers problem. Trespass includes damage to grass/soil structure/crops if he does it again, just a few photos of him in the field will help the farmer - its then down to assessment of damage - reasonable costs would follow a guilty verdict.

Pointing your mobile can be seen as intimidating and provocative in itself. If you have something a bit more subtle I think it would prove more effective. Plus you get some nice video of your shooting!

You don't have to point your mobile in their face, just have it in your hand down by your side so it's recording looking up at the person.

i once had a dog walker try to give me a rollocking for shooting pigeon with my 12g in a woodland on my cousins farm! she was walking her dog on the foot path that runs through! she claimed i was breaking the law by being there because its a public place .... i then explained it not, its private propperty with a footpath through it, i could shoot on the footpath if i liked aslong as it was safe to do so! she lost her temper abit as she was increasingly lost for words so i then told her she was breaking civil law by loitering, she has right to pass not to interfere with agricultural or sporting activities! these people make it up as they go along!

i know the law regarding what i can and cant do and its imperitive that all shooters do imop!

stay calm at all times when aproached unload ur gun and make it obvious to them! answer them politely and ask if they would like pigeon for tea...............lol

It might be interesting to phone the local police before you go again, explain where you will be and they will usually give you an incident number to quote to anybody who challenges you.

I don't do this when out pigeon shooting but if I'm out at night with the lamp I think it is worthwhile. I'm amazed that shooting at night on a golf course quite near houses has never resulted in any questions, guess the PCP is pretty quiet though . :)

Surly a quick pnc check would confirm your license rather that phone call (you could lie!!). They must have known you had one before making the call surely

I bet you the license was an excuse to call, what was actually happening was the "attitude test", which appears he passed with flying colours.

Once the Google Glass project is up and running and hits the mainstream, things like this will be easier to persue... everything we see and hear will be recorded and available for inspection!!!!

I wonder what the actual complaint he registered was?

I always find it strange how the police, who issue your licence, need to ask you about its conditions? They had your name, number, and I assume address, could they not have easily Cross referenced it?

Well handled though, by all involved. He sounds like a proper ***.
