Sha Bu Le
I've mentioned before we have a large cemetery out back of the house, over the last few months I have become increasingly annoyed at the number of visitors who drive and park on the grassed areas which will eventually become graves. Today I saw what I consider absolute disrepect to the dead. Someone actually parked over three existing graves. This really tripped my trigger bigstyle, what does the membership think? agree or I am being oversensitive? Might add my parents are buried not far from where this happened. Thoughts please. TIGHTCHOKE
I share your concern, these days respect is just not what it used to be, can the council not fence off the area?
Mk1 Man
Not good to see..... Did you confront the driver and point it out to them though?
TaxiDriver
Strictly my own personal view : You die, your body is surplus to requirements, needs disposal of some form, and for me cremation is the answer. But, if youre of a mind to visit a cemetary or grave yard you should respect your surroundings.
timmytree
I agree with you, totally disgusting but symptomatic of the uncaring, lazy, lowlife who couldn't give a damn about anyone else. Get the numbers and pass to the cemetery authorities along with photos if you can, hope something gets done.

TC unfortunately the area cannot be fenced as access is needed daily for the funerals which take place 3-4 times a day. The cemmy does have its own perimeter fence

Sha Bu Le
Not good to see..... Did you confront the driver and point it out to them though? I saw this from my house, unfortunately it was too far away and they left within a couple of minutes. there is no access from my property, will watch out in future and defo say something if it happens again. Its a 3-4 minute drive. I agree with you, totally disgusting but symptomatic of the uncaring, lazy, lowlife who couldn't give a damn about anyone else. Get the numbers and pass to the cemetery authorities along with photos if you can, hope something gets done. TT if it happens again I will write to the local rag with their number. MBW
I work for our local councils parks dept and often work in cemetery's and this is a problem we see all the time, not sure if its a nationwide thing but our council will not leave pedestrian access only. ( lock one of the double gates) as there were masses of complaints from people with disabilitys or were unable to walk the distance to their loved ones plot, however the only folk I have ever seen driving in are either lazy ( able bodied looking) or 30 stone and not meaning to offend but that is not a disability in my book. The worst I saw was when a burial was in progress and this ignorant *** tooted the horn to get the folk attending to move off the path and out his way most of the people I have caught and spoke with either play daft or are pig ignorant
jasper3
respect cost nothing but common sense... if not challenged every now and then..no one will learn the value
Pheasant Feeder
Absolutely disgusting. When I visit my fathers grave, I make a conscious effort not to step on any of the graves around him, on the odd occasion when I've accidentally mis-placed a step I've always said 'sorry Bill' taking the name from the gravestone. Perhaps a good way to deal with this is photo's on a local facebook site to name and shame.
figgy
Respect is sadly something lacking in a lot of today's society. I'm not that old but won't even knowingly walk over a grave out of respect never mind parking on one. Figgy
ack-ack
I've stopped riding my scrambler round the graveyard as a mark of respect.
pimpkiller
I cant stand to see people walking dogs around graveyards letting them do the business on someone elses stone, or golf courses for that matter
Northern Monkey
Yep with you on that.. You shouldn't even walk on one, let alone park a car on one! Most people these days have no respect for the living so the dead have no chance...

RED BEARD
i don't really see how one could be stood on one accidently, all the grave yards i've been in have plenty of room between rows.i think you should film the poeple doing it and take their numbers too, then print them off and stick them up on the graveyard gates for all to see,you could also print a picture off and put it in an envelope with a note then put it in a bag and leave it on the persons grave that was disrespected, that way their relation can take it up with the council too. shoot and be safe
TC unfortunately the area cannot be fenced as access is needed daily for the funerals which take place 3-4 times a day. The cemmy does have its own perimeter fence How is it possible to park on a grave, is there a overcrowding problem meaning that the plots are on the grass verge on the side of the road? Wouldn't it be ironic if the cars got stuck in the soft ground on top of the coffin or worse if the lid of the coffin was to break through. Very disrespectful

Very disrespectful Hi There is no overcrowding and this driver was 3 graves into the plots, although there is no car park there are several paths wide enough to park on and let other cars get past. (Google Earth Bishopwearmouth Cemetery Sunderland and you see what I mean). I'm hoping this was a one off, its the first time I've seen someone do it. However the camcorder will be kept handy. If he/she does it again I'll send the pics to council & the local rag. Thanks gents glad were all singing off the same song sheet. MBW
The cemetrys I work in the roads are meant for our truck and the digger moving around without marking the grass, Cars do get stuck and we have had a few that have hit headstones and driven off leaving a toppled stone and paint all over it in a lot of my time when we are not digging is fixing the grass where ***** have tracked or spun out getting stuck, the council are to scared to be seen to obstruct the disabled visitors. The worst thing is the ones who park at the gates and walk in are in wheelchairs or so frail they can hardly move and it seems to be able bodies folk who decide to drive or park over lairs
