pigeon controller
Friday started out full of the joys of spring knowing that we had drillings to look at and also clover fields to explore. After fifty plus miles we had only found small groups of birds all scattered about on clover and seed. We ended up at the rape field we shot last week the only problem was that they were so tight as a flock we knew that they would just lift off in a block. We decide to spook them off have another drive round and if they are down on our return set up. Another twentyfive miles later they were down so we set up and they went never to return so pack up and move on. We found a field with a few crows on it and decided to give it a go and put the pigeons out as well in the hope that some would be tempted to try the seed. The wind was a raw easterly and we had to shoot into the wind with the birds coming in over our shoulders , you can see the effect of the wind on my face in the picture. We ended the day with thirty two pigeons and thirty eight crows and jackdaws. Saturday was a very frosty start but we headed off in a totally different direction mainly looking for seed we completed a huge loop and found lots of seeding in progress but not much with birds on them. We could not find any birds flying to follow so decided to cut through the centre of the loop and keep looking . After eightyfive miles we found a flock on some clover and decided to set up. We had birds coming to the decoys with the disco in front of the hide so we thought we were in for a great day. I moved the car and it went quiet then a few birds started to return and it was steady for the next two hours. Then we had two helicopters playing around and a guy with a motorised parachute practising landings on the next farm. This made the birds very spooky but it was a great day and we ended up with seventy two birds in the bag but a lot of miles one hundred and sixty in total. pigeon controller
Well done, you must have a big freezer. Yes, six large chest freezers in the garage, I can hold approx 1400 birds if I have to. I've had two collections of 1000 plus so far this year.
