Ride on Mowers

Garden is 35ft wide and 120ft long.

As I said in my original post. I know I don't NEED a ride on. Just like people don't NEED guns or cars.

I just feel for Mrs ME struggling walking behind her existing mower..

My garden is twice the size and given the choice I use the self propelled hand mower (lawnflite pro) over the ride on. We have lots of trees and shrubs and they are a pain in the *** to cut round and you end up getting the normal mower out to tidy up.

We have other bits or garden/orchard and verges and its all easier with the hand mower.

I would say depends what your garden is like as to weather a ride along is worth it.

At that size garden ME I'd go for self propelled petrol, if you can still get the drag along roller with stand on tread plate its just like a ride on you can use conventionally.

Can only find the modern stand on mowers that are agile enough for a domestic garden.

I agree, unless ME you have a beef with the neighbours sit on, a decent propelled will give far better results, these, however don't have somewhere to put the beer can.

I use my Stiga for the front, but much, much prefer to use the handmower for the back, far better results.

I have an ancient Westwood that looks like a piece of **** but I took the tarp off it yesterday for the first time since August and it started second pull (I robbed the battery ages ago for something else!) Takes me a full day to cut everything I can't get to with the tractor so I don't bother that often, but on the highest height setting and 2nd gear it will tackle knee high grass all day long. Cost £200 about 15 years ago, and in that time had one belt, a couple of inner tubes, a drop of oil every spring and a bit of welding on a steering rod after a high speed mower/tree interface. Oh, and an aftermarket beer can holder :cool1:

I use a STIGA ride on at work, easy to maintain and blades (3) are simple to sharpen but best of all they have just started fitting Honda engines.Mulching decks are great but you will need to cut the grass every week in the growing season. If you get the chance of a used Stiga check that there is a deflector plate fitted under the fuel tank on the chassis-if not then grass cuttings build up and ignite on the exhaust-this then toasts the plastic fuel tank.If you smell burning plastic get off and run like **** :good:
