Browning
I suffer from bad circulation in my hands (I think they call it Raynauds Disease) which basically means my fingers get very cold, very easily during the winter. This is a real pain in the **** when it comes to shooting, as I can't wear thick gloves for obvious reasons. Can anyone recommend, from experience, any gloves that are windproof, waterproof, warm and thin enough to wear whilst shooting shotgun and rifle? I've tried leather, neoprene etc, which are OK, but still don't do the job well enough. Any help with this is very much appreciated.
Axe
I know this sounds daft, but have you tried silk gloves as an inner to your chosen shooting glove. Silk is a very good insulator.
lurcherboy
Le Chameau ones are windstoppers and still relatively thin enough tp load a pump or semi without losing a finger but expensive. LB
pavman
when fowling in really bad weather i use neo ones that have fingers that fold back, i keep them down when handling the boat on the river but once in position fold the trigger finger back, not perfect but even when wet they hold warmth,
Dunkield
I have tried most gloves, and find noeprene (Barbour) fairly useless when they get wet. I now have a pair of Beater gloves by one of those Finnish companies and they seem the business, tried them is hosing rain and fairly cold weather so far no probs. ziplex
KT, (knitted thermal) gloves made by Marigold or Thermit gloves made by Polyco are excellent liner gloves. I sell them through work to all sorts of customers.......people from cold store order pickers to yard workers sware by them. They will fit under most gloves and are purpose made to be an 'insulator', i've used them for fishing in sub zero conditions and they do work! Should be available from most PPE suppliers. benelli 1
I am currently using musto windstoppers. windproof , showerproof and very comfy. They are fleece lined with amara fronts which give fantastic grip even when wet. They are also breathable so your hands dont get sweaty. Thumb, trigger finger and middle are fold back and also have an elasticated cuff. Have a look for yourself on avalon guns shop site. In my opinion well worth thirty quid. Gordon R
I use Le Chameau, but carry a petrol handwarmer. I take off the gloves periodically and use the handwarmer. Then put the gloves back on. This does it for me. I am troubled with sore hands in cold weather - three dislocations and two broken knuckles. Dunkield
Can't believe it, a 'which glove' thread and no one has told the story about sticking you hands in freezing cold water yet Anyways I found a picture of the ones I use now, if you are going to get these try them on first as the fit can be bit funny. dmpi
Recently bought a pair of Whitewater adavantage camo rainblocker gloves and would recommend them. They have a non slip leather palm and thinner shooting finger to give better feel. Warm, waterproof - but not cheap. I think I paid about £18 on the net. mlhaney
I have treid numerous gloves and my experience is that there are NO gloves that are windproof, waterproof, warm and thin enough for shooting. The closest thing I have found are Filson fingerless merino wool gloves. They give warmth even when wet and your fingers are free. I have also found that dressing with one extra layer than you would otherwise need helps overcome the need for gloves. Hope this helps. IanF
No, No, No, No, NO!!!! Only one thing really works for keeping your puds warm in chilly conditions (ask an Eskimo!) - that would be mittens. Now, this is something that is not ideal for shooting usage - however, cross a set of fingerless gloves and a full mitten and you get something that works.... and works really well! Please give them a go - I find they are generally too warm for anything but sub zero usage. Maybe for your circulation problems they are the answer! I have tried the Barbour and Snowbee varieties. They are both rubbish. Lord Geordie
I find it best to keep the WRISTS warm as well as the hands as the blood passes the wrists it's close to the skin and with the surface area of the wrist it's cooled VERY quickly so keep your wrists warm also and it helps the circulation of warm blood to the finger tips LG
