Nial
Why? Badly worded, I don't want our country to lose it's character. I'm not 'panicking' but I am worried about problems caused by ghetto-isation and radicalisation or a large minority of the community. I think more people adopting the Christian characteristics they claim to want to defend might be the answer (ie crowds of enraged citizens _not_ taking things into their own hands against the greater muslim community). remmyman
There's a running theme in many threads discussing how the country is being 'over-run by muslims'. The results of a survey were published recently (I can't find a link) which showed that 10% of those under 20 in the UK identified as muslims, yet the population of Christians ageing and reducing. Those who are calling for something to be done to defend "Our Christian country", when was the last time you went to church? What do you _really_ know about the message of Christianity? Serious question. Nial. Hi Nial, I feel that we have to be very careful here. The way I see it the problem here is not the Muslim faith per se but one of extremists/fundermentalism.Although I admit to not being an expert as I understand it the true values of this faith are peace and respect for others etc. I no more blame all Muslims for this latest atrocity anymore than I blamed all Irish people for the IRA bombings.Another thing, if there wasn't Religion such sickening acts would still take place, the difference being that these 'sick' individuals would find another cause by which to try and justify themselves (thinking of letter bombs sent by Antis) etc. As to God/no GOD i've an open mind but when I'm tucked up in a 'hide' for whatever reason and look at the sheer beauty/complexity of the natural world I find it difficult to believe that it came about by chance. One thing is for sure, it's a question we will all get the answer to one day!! regards Remmyman

pegasus bridge
One does not have to be a practicing Christian to follow a Christian set of rules and lifestyle.. We all do that on a daily basis possibly without realising. Our laws, morals, social rules and norms, in fact the set of parameters that define how way we lead our lives are almost all derived or can be traced back to early Christianity and the bible.. So... Atheist, agnostic, devout believer... it matters not... we live a Christian lifestyle and that is the important point... it is irrelevant whether we have stepped into a church in the past. I do not believe in God per se but I would still class my self as Christian just as I would class myself as British. Spot on - I'm with you on this perspective. four-wheel-drive
Churches are ONLY useful as landmarks when giving directions! I was under the impression that it was pubs that did that job

four-wheel-drive
The point is that most of the rules that we live by in this country are based on Christian teaching it gives for the most part a framework to live a civilized life I say this as a total nonbeliever. Laird Lugton
I would imagine since we are being outbred by Muslims it is only a matter of time before Islam is the prominent religion on these Isles. I was brought up a Christian but I do not believe anymore and don't go to church. However I am happy to follow the rules set out in this country which I guess are based on Christian teachings, I will enjoy lightly chastising my wife when Islamic rules come in. beeredup
I'm a non-believer myself, however Britain is a Christian country. Our Queen is Defender of the Faith. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but for these muslims to come here and try to impose thier beliefs on us, when we can't even build a church in their countries is a joke. Bang on! Imperfection
What do you _really_ know about the message of Christianity? Im an atheist and in my honest opinion religion was created as a form of control over the weak minded and gullible. The only time i attend church are weddings and to show my respect at funerals like most people.

I pretty much despise religion regardless of type, and I have no wish for this country to be associated to any of them. Religion, especially in the western world is becoming scarcer. The sooner it disappears globally the better, to be honest. I fear that will be some time away though. J. J.

Vipa
No Gods ? & we live in a most amazing universe that we don't even know where it begins or where its ends ! & the more science discovers & the more strange calculations the super computers come up with the more bizarre the theories ! I would say its better to keep an open mind coz there is one thing for sure " Even atheists DIE ! " . Better we all just do our best as human beings & try to get along & then who knows ? One day we might just wake up DEAD ! . I sometimes wonder if the whole meaning of some words/titles gets misinterpreted.. Most Atheists I know or have met, like me, are absolutely certain that 'god' doesn't exist... 'God' being the omnipotent superbeing whose son, Jesust Christ, died on the cross 2 millennia ago and then ascended to heaven as told by 'the bible'... a 2 millennia old book written by... well.. no one can be certain really.. at a time when the earth was flat and at the centre of the universe, disease, plague and pestulance were brought on by acts of 'gods' and thunder and lightening were the 'gods' showing their anger... hardly a backdrop for belief by an enlightened 21st century high technology civilisation! Nor do they believe in some magical 'afterlife,' entry to which is dependent on how many 'points' you can earn during your mortal coil on this earth! Anyhoo... just because atheists don't believe in 'God' as defined above.. does not mean they are not open to the possibility of 'intelligent design.' Not all of them, granted.. some are adamant that it was all some big cosmic accident.. Intelligent design however is not the same as God and in most instances raises far more questions than it answers!
