ME
I am watching a car on Ebay but it is on a Q plate. Years ago, having a Q plate meant that it would never be changed. I have read a few forums and recent stuff on the internet saying that it might be easier to re-apply for an age-related plate nowadays. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks

stokie
If its a standard car on a Q plate it means its been written of and rebuilt using second hand parts . Then reregistered . If its a kit car then that's nothing to worry about as that's what most are . Once a car has a Q plate it can never be removed or replaced not even with a private plate

ME
It is an Ex MOD landy. And yes Al4x, I am at a beer festival on Friday night.... so there is a good chance.... (You heard that I once woke up with a nasty Port hangover having bought two camper vans from Australia ?!)
al4x
nope but at least you are in the right industry to get them back and ex mod on a Q plate has it been blown up once by chance
ME
It is an old one. It comes with a heritage certificate certifying the age.
al4x
looks quite tidy if its the one I think it is and not too far away, the question I always wonder is if its so easy to do something why doesn't the owner do it rather than just advertise it can be done Edited June 27, 2013 by al4x
Gordon R
No problem insuring Q plated vehicles. One of my kit cars was a Q plate - insured for buttons with Adrian Flux. I don't believe you can convert back to a normal registration.

(You heard that I once woke up with a nasty Port hangover having bought two camper vans from Australia ?!) Technically it should have an age related plate on it if it was just a mod release but for some reason some end up on q plates. If it was crashed and wrote off then it might have got Q plate that way. Edited June 27, 2013 by Big Mat
HDAV
I saw a q plate on a mini digger today a newish one too I want to know more about the milk float!
ferguson_tom
Its quite common for ex MOD stuff to have Q plates, normally if they dont release the original registration documents. Ex mod landrover should be fine, Q plate ford escort RS would be cause for concern.

spanj
It is an old one. It comes with a heritage certificate certifying the age. Q plates are used for vehicles where the vehicles date of first registration cant be proved. Edited June 29, 2013 by spanj
