Mil-Dot
The pistol shooters lost out in part because of lack of support, the fox hunters lost out for similar reasons, we're next and then make no mistake it'll be the fishing folks turn. Then once there's no more country lovers it'll all be concreted over to make way for Mr Blairs utopia United we must stand! I suspect that you were joking a little bit here, but it's pretty much true. The government will keep chipping away at all our little freedoms until there is NOTHING left to do. I do a bit of motocross and there have been similar issues with that and other off-road sports lately - there was almost a bit of legislation passed recently that would have pretty much destroyed club level motocross in Britain. It's all due to busy-body fools in London who have no idea what country life is about. Sometimes this government makes me so angry I could scream. Sorry, this is a bit off-topic. I wouldn't pay for BASC membership because I dont think any of these organisations can do a thing when the politicians get an idea in their head. Just go for the cheaper insurance. invector
I don't think of it as £57 a year, but just over £1 a week, for peace of mind. I won't put their sticker on my car though. Not after I heard of tyres being slashed!!! Low profile for me.

LeeH
I agree with you .. there's been cars with BASC stickers vandalised here too. Pointless setting yourself up for a visit to Kwik Fit or the local bodywork shop.
DirtyDeeds
For the less well informed of us (me!), can I assume that BASC membership is always due in January, and not from your joining date? I have to pay the BMFA (British Model Flying Assoc.) £23, the BKA (British Kendo Assoc.) £40; the last thing I need is another membership bill just after Christmas! The wife says I have too many expensive hobbies - I can't help it if boys toys are pricy!
Ferret Master
I'm a BASC Young Shot so I have to pay £20. FM

But i wouldn't bother joining them anyway, join one of the other ones. Have'nt bothered renewing my membership this year. Thanks for that. I really need to join some organisation - I'm going clay shooting on Sunday, and for the first time with my own gun, so can't very well 'stand under somebody else's umbrella' regarding insurance. I was hoping to phone up an organisation Friday morning, pay on the debit card, and know I'm covered.

On the other side I don't know if anyone has ever been shot on a clay ground it should in theory be pretty difficult unless you're very slack safety wise
Catamong
If you are a House owner you're probably already covered for £5 or £10million in Public Liability Insurance under your household policy, and you can't insure that same risk twice, so it's a lot to pay for a glossy magazine and car sticker that as others have already said is liable to get your motor trashed. And yes, people have been shot at clay shoots, but it happens extremely rarely, you are far more likely to get shot on a walked up or driven game day. I was once decoying a Pea field when a guy crept up behind my hide and took a shot at some lofted decoys I had in the tree 15 foot above my head - it frightened the hell out of me, there are some idiots about...!! And should add, then take the credit.........! I wasn't in any trouble with the police, just needed advice about the ******** that the FEO came out with........it would have being better coming from BASC, since, that's what I thought paying for membership was all about......but they declined & took a back seat, & left it up to me to phone. Maybe if a different approach by BASC had of being taken, I probally would have still had my membership with them. Looking back, they are good at blowing there own trumpet. So, up till now NGO all the way, for £25 you cannot be robbed, BJ.
