Calling - anyone in Newport area today

A very long shot I know, but did anyone happen to see a damaged car from 7AM today in the Newport - Gwent area?

My nephew was left for dead in a hit and run today. He was crossing traffic lights on green when a car came from the side, hit him and ran over the bike - he went through the air and was left unconscious on the road.

He has been in surgery most of today and hopefully will be OK.

Seems nobody stopped and the driver of the car drove off after running a red light.

Long-shot I know but if you happened to see anything or a damaged car driving around please call the Newport police and PM me.

Thanks

EDIT .... UPDATE:

We are looking for a Blue Ford Focus probably an early one. The Nephew (still on morphine) remembers some kind of tinting on some glass.

This car ran a red light by the cenotaph in Newport before hitting the lads motorbike. The bike was broken in half in the accident.

The incident was at 6.30 AM on 16th August.

Please give the Newport police any information if you have seen this car around or think you may know who it was ...... and PM me please.

Thanks for all the good wishes on here and by emails PM's etc.

Update:

The lad is on loads of painkillers but doing well. He's had some operations on his legs and feet but whilst he looks a mess, it is lower body bones and tendons broken nothing up top serious. Good news really. He now has 2 months in bed with his legs up! that will drive him nuts.

Other good news is the social media campaign has yielded some sighting of possible cars, one was spotted with serious damage in exactly the right place. The brother-in-Law got round to the GPS co ordinates given and took photos of the car, took those to the police who have now impounded the car for forensic tests.

Seems the lad did not think to tell the insurance company that he was doing a summer job at Iceland so he has no insurance cover for the bike and lost that as it has no value not at all.... daft I know but he really had no idea about this as a teenager.... no great as he is trying to fund hes way through college training as a plumber. Another lesson learned.

  • 2 weeks later...

Dreadful thing to happen, hope the lad gets mended as soon as possible. Have you tried putting the information and appeal on a broader internet media to reach a wider audience?

Blackpowder

The local press ran it and the nephew ran a Facebook effort .... nothing yet and now not likely.
