JDog
The closest estate to where I live, and therefore the easiest to keep an eye on in terms of pigeons, has had some rape stubble for a week now and I have not been able to get to it so I went for a look today. There were a lot of birds travelling along a belt of trees which gpreen and rottenfish4 will remember from the winter when I took them both out. Birds are very difficult to decoy off this belt of trees and most travel on the other side of it which is not my ground to shoot on making it doubly difficult and frustrating at times. Today the little darlings were travelling along it and flying completely over the three fields I was watching and into two fields of rape stubble beyond. This was pretty amazing as the fields were only cut last night fairly late on. There were 300 on the field but there was a big problem. It was my field to shoot but not with rape straw to be baled all over it. The baler was due this afternoon so I gave the fields a wide berth and went to my second choice spot instead. Along the long belt it was then. The flight line soon stopped and I guessed that all of the birds using it were already in the newly harvested fields. I could only therefore expect intermittent shooting until the return line opened up. This proved to be the case for two hours or so in which time I shot about 20. When the return line opened up things improved dramatically and pigeons came in good numbers towards me but very few decoyed. Those familiar with a return line will know that pigeons flying along it can be 40, 50 even 60m high and are very testing targets. I was on reasonable form and shot some which I was very pleased with, but I also missed a lot. One of the pictures shows my hide which was along a wall offering very little backdrop. I took three hazel sticks to put the netting on behind me as a backdrop and it worked pretty well. This was a really enjoyable afternoon considering it was the second choice position and I picked 57 which I was very pleased with.
pigeon controller
They can be very difficult at times, but you persisted. Good result at the end of the day , having fifty high shots can be brilliant shooting. Well done.
