Big Mat
This morning i had a change from the usual part of the marsh i shoot and went onto Kirton marsh with lister1 and harry the cat. Met lister1 at fosdyke and he showed me the way down to the access. Met harry and got geared up and headed onto the marsh. Decoys were thrown onto a splash and the 3 of us settle down in a creek not far away. Started becoming light and we started seeing a few birds flighting the marsh. Teal, wigeon and mallard. After a little while two came at the decoys but turned about 50 yards away. Then one bunch came in and circle the decoys presenting themselves right in front of us at close range. I fired and missed with the first shot but got a hen mallard with the second. On inspection of the mallard there where 6 holes just in the head and neck! It was shot using 33gram of steel 3s that i loaded myself! Its taken me untill the second month of my second season of wildfowling to get anything. 50 odd flights but now i've got a mallard in the bag! Oh and before the "usual" suspects appear, there where no flag poles or weather vanes for it to fly into Edited October 6, 2013 by Big Mat

ayano3
I knew with all the time 'and patience' you have shown you would finally go home with a duck. It was only a matter of time before you caught the game dealer open !!!! Joking apart Matt you have been patient and its a fact many would have given up the ghost long before now. Credit to you, Its like the saying goes 'you have broken your duck' and can now not have any excuses as you proved its not the dogs fault, not my fault, not the cartridges, not the gun, not the mud on your specs....and not Harrycats fault. (and Alan didn't claim it) Well done.

harrycatcat1
I can vouch for the duck was shot this morning, please dont ask me how many duck went over or how many shots were fired as my memory is not as good as it should be Needless to say I had a thoroughly enjoyable morning flight with Big Mat and Lister1 both of them are very knowledgeable young chaps and are a pleasure to go fowling with. This was my first flight of the season and I really enjoyed it, I even love the smell of the marsh, oh and ping pong loved it even more than me.Off to bed after a can of stella as its 20.12 and I have been up since 01.30 this morning.RegardsHccps I am off to buy some decent cartridges for duck, I should have put the ones Dale gave me in my pocket

The Ghost
well done big mat, I keep telling Fenny & Fenboy how hard wildfowling is and this just proves it....not an easy sport. Inland shooting wildfowl is a far easier game, but nothing is better than being on the marsh shooting ducks & geese.

lister1
Lets just hope its not another 50 flights ( well 53 really ) before i get another You'll get another before long. Just got to wait for that tide to be right again. I think that tide was a bit late on saturday because as I went through wisbech the river nene looked quit high and as we went over the welland at Fosdyke the river looked like it was still moving slightly.
