Just watched it. Can Durham police not put their hands up, made it sound like it was out fault.

Whilst that lad lost family it the worst circumstances ever imaginable he is very media hungry.

yes fear poor lad has been spun a bit of a story by people not fully informed or hiding the truth

so the shooting organisations have not had any success again it seems on a fundamental issue despite what HO guidelines etc say

yes there needs to be stronger and more organised lobbying imo with a overall group fighting the cause for all shooting organisations seems like a huge failure that this trial has been pushed out force wide

lets see if DAVID BASC adds any more comments to see what the factual details are.

I guess we cant condemn BASC etc until we know fully what happened and how this change has come in to effect

totally agree im hoping it some bad journalism that's incorrect

There is nothing the shooting organisations can do to be honest.

Meetings with the HO failed to return an outcome all sides were happy with, so nothing was decided. The reason the Police can get away with this is because there is nothing in HO guidance to say they can't do it.

As far as I'm aware there are now another three licensing authorities which have followed suit.

There is still no obligation to meet this 'requirement' ( for want of a better word) and licensing cannot refuse your ticket if you wont play ball, but if you have stated on your form something which gives cause for concern or merits further details they can, and will , request a GP's report. It has always been thus, the only changes are that now the Police are asking the applicant to foot the GP's bill for that report, and the other is that this will eventually become the norm, regardless of whether you declare a clean bill of health or not. It is coming, as sure as Christmas, and all our organisations can do about it is negotiate for a compromise to soften the blow, hence the reason they have mooted the 10 year license.

Just to add David a friend had their renewal (South Wales), they required a medical report which the renewer (not a BASC member) had to pay for. Fortunately was only £15 but that is down to the surgery not the police. Could have been a lot more. Oddly it was for i think a prescription written before the original grant.

Re the video, I feel sorry for the son as he is being used a pawn in durham constabulary's attempt to cover up their internal failures, the pilot questionnaire was a farce worrying that 2/3 rds did fill it in.

Thanks David, seems a bit of a coincidence for this to appear on local radio, BBC Look North and ITV at exactly the same time, all of them using the same headline "Durham gun licence pilot goes national".

Is this just Durham trying to shift focus away from the IPCC report which puts the blame for the Atherton shootings 100% on their shoulders?, I wonder.

And it gets worse, now reported on BBC North news is the added bonus of,

"It is now expanding the trial to add a voluntary questionnaire asking the applicants themselves direct questions about whether they have a history of suicidal thoughts, depression, bi-polar disorder or other neurological conditions."
