Hamster
It seems there's more positive answers than negative ones I've already started to look about and see what's about but not going to rush into buying anything until Xmas but please keep the comments coming good or bad also cartridge recommendations etc thanks Andy Part of the problem with 410 is also the lack of decent, well engineered guns that handle well. This is easy when it comes to 12g as you can pick up potentially world beating guns 2nd hand for under a grand but almost all the offering in the tiny calibre almost seem to be an apology for a gun. True you can get nice Remington semi's or pay through the nose for a top flight long barrelled thoroughbred but generally the £500 offerings have horrid looking wood and next to no effort put into making them handle right. turbo33
Absolutely go for it Clays are about fun and with a 410, I think you might just be surprised and put a big grin on your face I did a High pheasant stand at a local country fair with Bluebarrels last year. A chap came up to me and was ripping my arm off to buy my 410, there and then. He was gobsmacked when I told him it was a cheap Turkish Yilditz A lot on here completely under estimate the 410. Great for kids, both small and big Yes the carts are expensive compared to say a 12g, but a bang is a bang, so not much difference per pop, and if you reload them, they will be dirt cheap Set of scales, de-re-capper, rto....sorted for under a hundred quid Get out there, life is for fun Edited November 8, 2013 by turbo33
CZ550Kevlar
Paid £40 for my single barrel Cooey .410 and I love it, such a fun little toy to have. Plus it's in spotless condition and I'll never part with it.
welshwarrior
Any small bore is great fun IMHO. I'm rebuilding my 410 that was bought by my granddad between the wars, and have been for 3 years I'll finish it one day, so don't shoot 410 very much now but I love my 28 bore and will shoot most things with it game pigeon crows rabbits sporting clays skeet DTL I just like shooting them. True you can get nice Remington semi's or pay through the nose for a top flight long barrelled thoroughbred but generally the £500 offerings have horrid looking wood and next to no effort put into making them handle right. I have a REVO .410, I use it for the kids. Every now and then I have a pop and it is good fun, and those looking on nearly always fancy a go. As for poor wood and little effort put into them, "what a load of rubbish". The wood on a Yildiz is normally very good, the wood on a REVO is OK, but you should be looking at the clay when using the gun, unless of course you want to show off what you have "Label Mabel" comes to mind. As in all things you get pay for. If you can hit a target with a .410, as you more up the gauge, a larger gauge becomes more forgiving. silver pigeon 3
I bought my lads a .410 to start shooting with, i probably use it more than them and am quite often caught by the Mrs going for a mooch with it. Keep the ranges sensible and they are great fun.

I used to go lamping rabbits with mine in certain areas it was perfect out the window and dropped them everytime. I'm thinking of selling it though since I havn't used it in years
Hesketh
Paid £40 for my single barrel Cooey .410 and I love it, such a fun little toy to have. Plus it's in spotless condition and I'll never part with it. Cant agree more. Got one of these Cooey's and it is cracking fun on the clays, for a bit of fun. I was quite shocked how effective it can be. I am going to look out for the skeat size 9 shot.
James_w12345
I often use the .410 for squirrels, for this you cant beat it! (and lots of other vermin) nice light load, not as loud (so doesnt scare everything in the woods away). Also great for rabbits and Ive shot pigeon and magpie with it too. Ive never used one for game, I can imagine its a good bore for woodcock or snipe but the shot are usually 6s so a bit big. And with regards to DrBlox's recommendation of a Webley & Scott .410 bolt action, I give it a thumbs up, my dad had one and I learnt on it, and still use it on my land (even over the 12 bore, depending what im after), Very reliable but not good for game due to the slow reload time! (and possibly not packing enough punch, wouldnt like to take a pheasant with one, unless i guess it was 25 yards away or less, but even then I wouldn't). As mentioned by others, cartridges are a bit steep!!!
BlaserF3
Ok so I've brought the gun next question which factory loads to try at the skeet range ? Before the 410 sporting challenge starts at Xmas I use Cheddite Drago 18gms size eight shot through my .410. Very good breaks at longer range too. hoggysreels
Webley & Scott single bolt action .410 ... love it .. l get as much pleasure using a 410 as a 12 bore ... though far less success lol Id one day like to own a 28 bore sbs .. but not at the expense of owing the .410 ... Shame the cartridge availability is restricted as compared to 12 bore ..
beeredup
yeah i bought a Yildiz 410 youth for my nephews to bust some clays with and had a go myself with a butt pad extender and enjoyed it but the fit was terrible i have fires a friends Huglu and liked the feel of it so i have bought one off here, i am looking forward to getting home and putting some expensive ammo through it i am thinking with the cost of 410 ammo it may be wise to reload? beeredup
one thing is for sure if your pointing it the right way a 410 will most certainly dust a clay at english sporting ranges, the main thing to remember there are less pellets in the air and the kill zone is smaller for a 410 compared to a 12b
Ugb25
I'm going to try my huglu today with eley trap 19g 3" cartridges and looking forward to the challenge will post the result later today

If it's the wood then most can be repaired quite cheaply.
Ugb25
No hammy it's the action face there are 2 cracks from the firing pin holes to the edge of the action
BlaserF3
They are meant to be there, their purpose is to vent gasses in case the firing pins ever puncture a primer.
