Been shooting these critters at work for the past 6 years, And still they keep appearing, granted not so many now, but makes you start to wonder where they keep coming from, maybe one day i,ll clear them all out

Well, you see, when a Mummy Squirrel and a Daddy Squirrel love each other very much...............

You and me too. Needs a national campaign and then we may see a change in the tide and a chance for the Reds to take back their heritage. :good:

It's far too late for that unfortunately. The reds need some natural resistance to squirrel pox and a good buffer between them and the greys but they'll probably never be widespread again.

oh ya cant beat blasting a grey tree rat from its nice tree house!!!!! have lost count on the number ive shot in the 5 years ive had me licence! they make good decoys for the crows aswell, just tie fishing line around the neck and throw the ****** as far out into a grass field as possible making sure you dont break cover from the woodland or any sneak crow in hidden branches will see ya. if you got one place an owl decoy high up onto a dead branch so it well seen. when you hear crows getting closer to your area start tugging on the fishing line making the tree rat jump about. works a treat for me and so far 2013 count is possible into the 1000s!!!!

There is a National Campaign, DEFRA and the FC have been trying to get rid of them for about the last 7 years!

They have had some daft ideas though, like the birth control pill!

You can keep shooting them, more keep coming in. I think that's the way it is. They're here to stay I reckon, and we can only help to keep numbers down by shooting them when we can. That's just my opinion, but as most of the public probably like them because they think they're cute, we're in a minority aren't we? I've been shooting grey squirrels regularly since the 1970's and I've not noticed any difference in numbers.

You can make a difference but you have to keep at it. I bought a woodland in 2006 and shot it for a few years, the grey numbers plummeted and it was very noticeable how much the small bird population increased. I sold it 2 years ago, and last month I had a walk around it with the new owner for a chat about tree felling and building, the squirrels are now back in big numbers but I live 300 miles away. I pointed out a squirrel that was nigh on the size of a rabbit, but the owner wasn't interested.
