Twistedsanity
I put my silver pig up for Sale on gunwatch and have received this reply: Hi,i am with the U.S Navy (USNR -VS-82, NAS Alameda, VS-82.), I'm buying this for my friend as a surprise gift, so i'm willing to offer you the amount you required. Due to the hectic nature of my job, the only mode of payment that best suit this transaction is Paypal therefore i have made arrangement with my agent who is a registered arm dealer to come pick it up when payment has been cleared in your account so i would want you to get back to me with your pay pal email address for me to make payment to you and perhaps, your pick up address so i can have my agent to schedule pick up appointment after payment. Kindly get back to me with the following questions below: 1) Are you the Owner? 2) Pick up Location? 3) Your PayPal Email ID to effect the payment 4)asking price once again for confirmation? Thanks and God bless From Seems to smell of kippers to me , anybody else had an experience like this from gunwatch?

simonix
Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole!!!!' Besides, surely your FEO might have issues with you selling a gun on your licence to someone's agent?! RFD or face to face only surely?! Had friends with very similar replies to car adverts too! Bleeh
Right.1.) Don't use your real address.2.) Agree to meet in a public place. Get the details of the RFD. (He'll have a ticket). Find out what the hell is going on. Attempted theft of a firearm is something the police would be very interested in. poontang
Well dodgy. Speak to your local plod and see if they'll set up a 'sting' operation. If they're busy, try MI5.

Hamster
It doesn't read like American English and ends with God Bless which is odd to say the least, also why would a US navy chap / chapette want to : 1) buy a gun for their friend 2) want to buy one from over here This is a pretty lame scam. Twistedsanity
Tbh I would only meet them at a shooting grounds anyway unless they were known to somebody on here , i have a wife and baby so telling complete strangers where I live and keep guns doesn't seem too clever , at least I'm not the only one who got mail

webber
Lets just pretend and play this out. Chummy pays you the asking price via Paypal. You hand over the gun to his agent, all proper, license the lot. Some days later chummy contacts Paypal and tells them that the GUN wasn't as described, is defective etc. Paypal have an anti gun policy, but I would bet whats left of my pension that chummy gets a full refund and you waive by by to your gun, as the "agent" will by now have passed the gun on quite possibly exporting it to god knows where. We all like to make sales, but Paypal and guns don't mix. webber

I think it's someone without a license, OR they are trying to get address with firearms present. Edited November 15, 2013 by Bleeh
Gav912
I've just had the same email in reply to both gun adverts I have on there, started with two is the gun for sale messages then the email. Certainly wouldn't want to do a deal through Paypal even if this guy was genuine! googled the email address and its come up with several results for classified ad Paypal scams linked to it. Twistedsanity
All good points, maybe ill pop it to my RFD and let them sell it and take a commission instead , definitely less hassle

I think it's someone without a license, OR they are trying to get address with firearms present. Quite possible about the address, hence the numerous suggestions about where to meet. A paper trail is all well and good, but fails when guns cross boarders into certain countries where the name ends in stan! webber

Gabrielcosmin.dinu
Never give away your paypal email address as he can use it with fishing and spoof programs and will get your password then threat himself some Christmass gifts with you paypal account. Just make an google, yahoo, etc email address and give that to him (also don't use your normal password on that account) , give him next door address and wait for him to show up for collection, keep him there for 10 mins and call old Bill when he shows up. Jobe done, one less scammer. I've done it when I was living in Germany.
955i
Have we really got the stage where dodgy English in an email still has to be questioned? No offence to the OP, but the blatant bad use of the language in the reply should tell you all you need to know!! To be honest, I'm amazed that you needed to ask Edited November 15, 2013 by 955i
