Beretta28g
I have just bought some Mallard and Greylag FUDS. Do many people use em for fowling? And do you have any tips when using.
kent
They are ok as silhouettes most reduce the weight by trimming the keels down a lot. Don't put them on water they are totally outclassed bt traditional full body types
Anth6568
I find that the Canada Goose ones work really well, but the Greylag don't seem to work. They seem very suspicious of them. Does any one agree?
Beretta28g
I was taken by 1) The price 2) The size and therefore the ease of carrying. As on most marshes I have a very long walk to get there.
fenboy
We were using some mallard and wigeon ones yesterday , they are ok on shallow splashes etc but dont float anything near as well as normal decoys so doubt they would be much use in a tide run . Beretta28g
It would only be splashes or soak dykes for me. Are they good at attracting birds?
fenboy
Not yesterday they wasn't , they belong to the chap I was shooting with so cant tell you much more , he does not use them a great deal . My opinion would be same as above , they would be best as silhouettes under the moon or late evening flights . They do pack down nice for carrying though. motty
I have used pinkfoot fuds inland decoying greys and Canadas over the last few years. They seem to do the job, although they have been used with other decoys. I have no doubt they would work well on their own. Beretta, did you buy them on ebay from the bloke in Kings lynn? happy.plinker
I find the Greylag fuds work best close together along with plywood silouettes,I reckon if they're to far apart the geese study them individually and veer of, but together they just seen a big bunch and come in closer or land. I use 6 fuds,6 ply silouettes,11 sillosocks. This works for me anyway, and a mate has mallard fuds ands doesn't like them on the water , I think they're all over the place. shinybum
i had some mallard fuds, and sold them, they were always getting tangled in the lines, the keel moving and then not sitting correctly on water
E.w.
I've used them duck and greylag they work just fine but they are not the best floaters.
Beretta28g
Cheers all. I have just spent the afternoon stringing them up, and hope to try them out tomorrow. They certainly look good and are light weight. Full report to follow.
Big Mat
They look ok from certain angles but i'm not 100% convinced on them, i've only used them a few times now. They are nice and light though! I certainly wouldnt use them on anything with a current. Splashes on the marsh they are ok on. I'll be using mine on splashes at some point again. olivhar01
I sold mine, they go over in a strong wind. Gone back to full bodied decoys
Beretta28g
It's just too far to carry a decent number of full bodied coys on the "off chance"
kent
It's just too far to carry a decent number of full bodied coys on the "off chance" Never set of fowling on the off chance, invariably you will draw a blank. Take std deeks and remove the keel ballast turning them into an aqua keel (drill a hole front and rear)or do as most do carry less. Remember your quarry views most things from above in low light, if you want to fill out a smaller number of full bodies put out a few flat silhouettes. 4 drilled out mallard deeks weigh far less than one dead one! These FUD are quite heavy in the keel
roughshooter
A Fud test will be posted asap when I have got em and used em. How did you get on with the fuds?
Beretta28g
Used the mallard, will be using the geese in the morning.
roughshooter
Will be taking a set of teal and widgeon down the Dyfei tomorrow for a first outing so time will tell my end as well!
Beretta28g
Well Ive now use both the Mallard and Greylag. They look good, and are easy and lightweight to carry. Sadly on either occasion, birds were non existent so i do not know about the attracting capability. Will post a further update when available! But as for now i like them! roughshooter
I am afraid that I wasn't too impressed so if you want a set of once used teal and widgeon then let me know.........................
