They are in the wood next to me right now! I am sat in a high seat thinning out the squirrel population with the HMR and I have seen approx 600 pigeons this morning when I walked around and since I have been sat here. I can't shoot them until feb when the game season finishes so they are just laughing at me I think!

I'll bet they have been there all the time. It's only just time for them to start bunching up into the large flocks we see in the winter months.

They are now starting to hit the rape fields of East Anglia. They have finished off the acorns and other seeds and the new drillings are over so its rape here we come.

Now the farmers will start a hollering and a shouting...

As soon as the cold hits down here the pigeons go sit in the trees and show very little interest in moving.

This morning I was checking out some hweat that went down last weekend, theres a wood next to it and I lost count how many were sat there.... no interest what so ever in the wheat tho.

Squirrels with an HMR, WOW that must be a buzzzzzzz! :)

They are not awfully keen on the calibre as it gives them more than a headache. It's surprisingly challenging as they hop about.

The pigeons were all on the stubble until a walked them off and they all came back to the wood and then several more large flocks joined them.

There is currently a massive natural harvest in the UK's wooded areas, so surely no surprize then that this is where wood pigeons can be found and because they are very mobile opportunistic feeders they will check the arable between the woods - old stubble fields, game crops and set-aside - regret they won't be pinned down and there probably won't be much action for decoyers until the weather produces a much longer cold spell but, never worry, by mid February we'll all be into some stoggies.
